I saw this before in the eighties......

It was called Police Rescue!

reply

That was the '90s. I saw this in the '80s. It was called Special Squad!

I've never watched Police Rescue, but surely it can't be similar to Rush?

A million shadows of human emotion, we've just gotta learn to live with them.

I stand corrected, Police Rescue was at the start of the nineties. The excesses of the era took their toll on me.

However, the dynamic of "Rush" is the same, even right down to their little base ('cept for the computer room). Tough new inspector, tough experienced sergeant trying to run the crew HIS way. Love interests between squad members. New young rookie wet behind the ears. Daring rescue's from impossible situations.
Same, same, same.

You know the reason Rush has similarities to Police Rescue? It's meant to be a continuation of it.

Police Rescue was popular, then when it ended, the networks wanted to make a follow-on show which didn't eventuate for quite a while. A few years ago, the script for a 'Tactical Response' show was pitched to Ten, as a continuation of Police Rescue.

That's why it's similar. The original pitch was slightly different, and had different actors in the roles (Libby Tanner, Matthew Le Nevez), but Ten wasn't looking for a cop show at the time and they put the idea aside for the time being. Then this year, they changed their minds - there was a push for quality police shows, and the 'Tactical Response' show idea came off the shelf, and was re-named Rush.

Brand new cast, polished scripts, and Ten loved it. The idea was to continue on with police Rescue, but obviously that show is dated now and wouldn't work now - so they used the concept of Police Rescue, but changed it into a brand new show.

A million shadows of human emotion, we've just gotta learn to live with them.

fine with me. I liked Police Rescue, and I like this too.

This show can be alot better with american actors. and I don't mean aussies with fake american accents.
Why do the free to air networks keep broadcasting these second rate low budget aussie made shows?
There are so many american shows out there. The free to air newtorks would go out of business if it wasn't for the american shows!!

reply

Hmm @ racist. What've you got against aussies?

reply

I am not being racist, I am simply saying that aussie shows are that bad...

reply

There's been some horrible Australian shows yes, but I wouldn't say they're all bad.

reply

In 52 years of australian television and film not one aussie made production has made it in the US , and your saying they are not all that bad!!!
How could you guys vote graham kennedy as the king of comedy!!!!
He would get within a light year of jerry lewis, woody allen, david lettermen, bob hope....you guys have absolutely no taste in comedy.
The difference between the aussie cop shows and the american ones is that the american ones are world famous, and you guys well... most people don't know where Melbourne is!!!

reply

You think that because Australian shows haven't 'made it' in America, they're all crap? I don't think it really matters whether they've made it in the US or not.

It's a good change to have some Aussie shows on TV, we're flooded with lots of American ones enough already!

reply

Hey this is about being entertained! i like many Aussie shows. they don't have the money the US has and the longer history they are evolving quite nicely.Until the internet i never was able to see them. and i think "The Straits went to ABC so the Aussie invasion has begun? Also come on Three and a half men, hugely popular is just crap. The masses are entertained!

reply

oh please, the US have made alot of really crappy shows of their own. Yes there's alot of crappy Aussie shows out there, but there are also a couple of Aussie shows that are really good. And you ARE being racist idiot.

reply

You make it sound like all American shows are worth watching, and all American actors are fantastic actors. The difference between American shows and Australian shows is that Australian shows are realistic, whereas American shows are deliberately over-the-top and fake.

Rush differs from so many American crime shows in that it's believable - yes, it takes creative license sometimes, just like every single show ever broadcast anywhere in the world - but you could believe that these people are real police, with real cases and real situations.

Not all police strut around in Gucci suits with expensive sunglasses, showcasing their extraordinary abilities to multi-task and be experts at every field (a la CSI). Real police are flawed, just like real people.

A million shadows of human emotion, we've just gotta learn to live with them.

I'm not a large consumer of Aussie television but this seems solid enough. I like it enough to give it time to find its stride. In the US this show would be white noise and wouldn't get anywhere.

reply

I haven't seen rush - but you've basically hit the nail on the head with the comment on US cop shows. The original Law and Order remains quite good, but many of the spin off's are terrible. Show's like NCIS and Bones are just laughable if taken with any level of scrutiny.

reply

There is a lot of great Australian movies. Don't know about series, but this beats most US cop shows, specially Flashpoint and it's over-dramatic emotional crap.

This centers in what matters, almost in a Michael Mann way. Great series. It's a shame only found it now..

Idiot with a warped sense of perspective. Enjoy Dexter, *beep*
