Just Imagine a USA Remake

Just imagine a USA remake!

Story and the community will be different depending on various parts of the US.
The way people interactive as well as communities will be different in various parts of the USA.

Some parts of the USA, people are more civilize. In other parts, it will be more of wild west.

IN the South, you see more racism and gun toten murders. In many parts of California, and other liberal ares, there will be more community effort.

I would have preferred a US remake to a UK one, to be honest.

Being a huge fan of the 70's original, this version just seemed rather pointless to me. At least an American 'reimagining' would have seemed less so, and hopefully been brave enough to tell a completely different story with different characters (without bastardizing Greg, Abby, Tom, etc.).

Then again, look how lousy Jericho turned out (after such a great premise and opening, IMO). :)

The Walking Dead (the comic, as the tv show is average at best) is probably the closest in 'tone' and theme as the original Survivors (despite also having zombies!), IMO.

True, people will compare USA Remake to Jericho or Jeremiah.

more dexters. since gun laws are pretty different in usa. there would be like a million dexters and the rest woulb be tom.wild west.

watch everything you like, dont like everything you watch.

I'm just really curious as to why, you think having a gun is going to change someone's personality? A bully is a bully is a bully and having or not having a firearm will not change that. I find it ironic that this show brought that out so well. Dexter was a coward. He couldn't pull the trigger even when he had the obvious upper hand. The gun did almost nothing for him. Having a large number of guns around will not make people change what they are. What having guns around will do is equalize the situation because, suddenly, small people have as much, if not more so, of an advantage in physical confrontations. That is if they are ever actually used or not.

reply

A US remake might be forthcoming because of "The Walking Dead." The difference is that the dead become zombies.

reply

They have done - it's known as The Walking Dead, only that series obviously has zombies

'Who is this person the world owes money to? Can we just kill the bastard and relax?'

>In many parts of California, and other liberal ares, there will be more community >effort.

That is absolute rubbish. I was born and raised in a socialist country and believe me: that ideology breeds pure and unadulterated selfishness. In all those "liberal areas" the crime is usually on the rise since, you know, the society is to blame. So you will have gangs running the streets and former intellectuals playing jesters and fighting for scraps.
As for "gun totting" Southerners I'm pretty sure that there will be strong communities and communal efforts.

reply

Socialism breeds unselfish people. Hmm, you must not get out much.

reply

You clearly only know socialism from books. I was born and raised in a socialist country.
Trust me, it breads selfishness and is only good for thieves and party functionaries.

reply

Socialism is a conservative establishment. Liberalism is not socialism. Liberals founded the United States and won all the freedoms those in the Western Civilization enjoy.

reply

Nurst, Liberal or Conservative does not imply a philosiphy or ideology. Conservative simply means they favor the status quo, and Liberal means they favor a change from the status quo. In Soviet Russia, Communists would be conservatives while in the US they would very liberal. The leaders of the American Revolution were something of a mix for their day but, in the end their actions were very liberal for their time. In this day and age, the principals they fought for, in the US, would be considered a conservative view point because that is the status quo.

reply

It does indeed apply. Freedom and democracy are liberal ideals. Our founding fathers held the same liberal ideals that modern liberals espouse. Freedom of speech, religion, etc. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Those are liberal, not conservative principles. Sorry!

reply

mrousine, note that I said, "unselfish" so I hope you meant that for someone else.

reply

California, community effort????....clearly you don't know much about California. I do, I live here. We are tops in welfare recipients, we are tops with MORE people TAKING a check from the government. We are number one with people in jail or on parole. We have more gangs, more illegals, more of the fringe element than any other state in the union.
And, the idiots have voted in Liberal Democrats for the past forty years, even Arnold Schwarzenegger was a Democrat in Republican clothing. Anyone who has the slightest education is bailing out of this state like rats off a sinking ship.
I'd leave (and am) as soon as possible. No big city would be safe in the United States. None of them, but particularly, Los Angeles, home of the lazy, stupid, breeders.

I agree, California would be in a state of anarchy as the rest of the USA. I was born and raised in CA, have since left, and realized it's all the same no matter where you go. People are people, and people are *beep*

reply

Breeders? You must be talking about the south,,,or utah with people like the Duggers that can't keep their legs closed. I am sick and tired of christian zealots complaining about other people having children when they are the worst of the lot with their careless and selfish reproduction.

reply

I don't like the Duggars, I find them disgusting and their 'religion' is a cult (Google, ATI or Bill Gothard if you want to know more), their ONE and ONLY redeeming quality is that they PAY for their kids themselves and don't expect government handouts.

By breeder, I'm referring to those who DO expect everyone and anyone but themselves to hand over money, food, housing, medical and all other aspects of their lives simply because they squeezed out a kid or half dozen, ON PURPOSE. If you can't feed them, don't breed them, period. I'm sick of working for lazy dullards...

Data does not support your claims. People in Southern, Confederate states tend to be more dependent upon Welfare than in liberal/Democratic states. This obviously has a lot to do wtih policy as economic conditions are not fruitful enough for the poor in Republican states. Lower wages, lower or non-existant taxes on the wealthy and corporations, poor air and water quality, etc;

Let's be friends!

reply

Yeah, honestly he's probably just using anecdotal evidence to base his claims. I also live in California and where I am it's nothing like what he said.

reply

You people who think you grew up in a socialist country - I have news for you, it was just a corrupt despotism. What a completely foolish view of the world you are touting. Strong communities where they lynch people they do not like. Sheesh.

reply

I live in New York and no one here has a firearm. If this were to happen in the US, the first place I would go to find a gun would be a local police station because happening upon one in a house would be a fluke. That being said the south is different, but it's definitely not the case that 50% of Americans have a gun in their home.

Anyways, I agree a US remake would be amazing and highly interesting to US audiences (see I Am Legend). I think in the future it is highly possible that we will see a series inspired by this one or with the same concept. I am excited for that day!

Gallup found that between 45% to 48% of homes in the past three years polling admitted to having a gun at home. They estimate the non reporting to be between 5% to 15% meaning at least 50% of US homes are armed

reply

The Walking Dead should go a long way towards that.

Great comic/graphic novel story with character development and went pretty far before it jumped the shark.

TV series started out strong, but jumped the shark in the second or third episode.

reply

The Stand took place in America. I have a feeling it was heavily influenced by the 1970s series Survivors. King was living in England for a while at that time. Also, the series aired in 1974-75-76 and The Stand came out in 1978 and took many years to write. I think King might have even given credit to the British show.

It's similar in theme except that in The Stand, God and the Devil come into play. Otherwise, there is a flu pandemic which kills 99% of the population. The government lies about it because it is part of a germ warfare project.

reply

I never thought about it, but I think your dead on in this observation, good job!!
I watched all the original Survivors' from the 70's, series one and two were pretty good and I watched huge chunks of them at a time, but series three was awful. The biggest mistake from the original was getting rid of the Abby Grant character.
