9.4?? COME ON!

i can´t believe this has a 9.4 rating - even tough it has only 98 votes by now. but come on! - the acting is bizarrely wooden (the kids in bugsy malone manage to come across much more authentic - except ving, he delivers some fine acting within the limitations of the incredibliy clichéd script). it fails to create "noir" feeling at all... cheap, cheap, cheap. sin city at least looked cool.

i´m aware of that but it still bored me.

I just watched the trailer. It looks very cheap and so does the acting. I love the concept of the 50's feel with ultra violence but this looks like a Frank Miller knockoff...not the good kind

reply

It doesnt work as a satire or as an action film, close to a 9? Really?

I watched this and it's not even close to a 3 let alone a 9. BTW which member of the cast or crew were you, because this movie is a baby only its mother could love.

reply

Lol yes it's a conspiracy if someone doesn't agree with you. Or it's paranoia.

reply

Wait, wait.. there's people that don't agree with me?

Im sorry, but you cant really blame the acting. The script was terrible. You are hammered in from start to finish that Malone is a badass drunk. Thomas Jane played exactly the part he was payed to play. The problem comes from weak as piss script and a lot of poor editing and camera work. Also the fact that they couldn't decide what time period it was set in, really stumbled the narrative too.

reply

Arg, some of you guys just really don't get it. The script and acting aren't bad/cliche-- they're highly stylistic. They're referencing 1940's and 50's noir. The lines were punchy, over the top and hilarious, working as intended. Loved this flick. If you didn't like it, its just not your cup of tea. Calling it badly acted/poorly scripted just means you didn't get it,

I'm writing my dissertation on pulp fiction. I 'get it'.

Writing a dissertation is great for you whokilledreno, but it is still only YOUR OPINION, nothing more and nothing less. Everyone else's opinion on here carries the same weight, even if I claim to be a big time Hollywood producer, no one cares because 1) this is the internet and everyone is full of crap, and 2) even if you are honest, it is still one person's opinion, which is usually skewed due to infinite variables (race, religion, etc).

A PhD in Arts is like a Bachelor's in Science... you may understand the concepts, but you will never appreciate their significance until you apply them to the real world, whether through controlled experiments or mass critical review (which even then is subjective and flawed).

Good luck with your degree, you probably will have a great career in politics...

Ahhhhh! The old "If you didn't like it, you don't understand ART!" ploy. The thing is that the films of the 40's & 50's had some substance to the writing and much better acting (most of the time). This thing was a poorly scripted attempt to do an over-the-top film noir.

I will agree, they succeeded on the over-the-top part. But the writing was not that good and some of the acting was less than adequate. That's my opinion, and you can disagree with it if you want to. But please don't give me this "you don't understand true film making art," crap.

so it's a 9 in the style of hot fuzz or shoot 'em up? good, that's my kind of 9.

YES THE BEGINNING WAS GOOD...

LMAO @ MATCHSTICK...WHAT DID THEY TELL HIM? PLAY LIKE HEATH LEDGER'S JOKER...??

*beep* WAS EMBARRASSING TO WATCH

TRAGIC FAIL

Most all movies start out with the ratings very very skewed. Never even bother with the ratings with so few votes. Obviously just people who either really love or really hate would bother so soon.

it was actually a ten at one point out of 50 votes

Inception - never in my life have I been more excited about seeing a movie

reply

I can easily see how this film wouldn't work for many folks, and I'm often turned off by similar tones--for example, the 1990 Dick Tracy has never clicked with me, even though I've given it a chance three times now, but the tone did work for me here. It's intentionally campy, almost a spoof-like comic-book film noir/action film, intentionally a bit cheesy and over the top--the script, performances, etc., and it's set in an intentionally vague time period. Not that being how it was intended to be makes it better or means that you should like it, but I did. I gave it an 8/10.

Well yes, they probably started out planning that, but then they go ahead and mention the internet at one stage in the middle of the film.
