This is good but a bit confusing (SPOILERS)
This French,French language film about a group of French resistance fighters is a good film.
I am glad I saw it and was moved by the drama.
I would say go and see it if you like war films or just want to see a film that will make you think.
(What would you do if your country/adopted country was invaded?would you help the police to round up the people causing trouble <or fighting back if you prefer>)
The film is good looking,Paris looks attractive even under Nazi occupation and a fascist Vichy government.
Perhaps it looks to attractive ?,it does not look run down enough for me and nobody complains about food or energy shortages.
I have read about the French resistance and this particular faction, but I still found the story confusing.
Was the group effective in its aims? or were they doomed heroes/heroines?
How many attacks did they actual carry out and how many fighters survived?
I know that DRANCY was a just built housing estate which was used to house rounded up jews but perhaps the filmakers assume to much knowledge of viewers,do most French people know the background to this story?
I don't want to be too critical,it is a dramatic film with good acting but it could have been a better film with dare I say some more Hollywood style dramatic licence?
Perhaps people with less of an obsession with history will just enjoy the film as a film.
I especially liked the locations, loved the 1930s Art Deco swimming pool and the street where they all stay.
