Cannes?

It's kind of shocking that this wasn't selected for Cannes 09 in any of the sections or sidebars. Any speculation why? Will Dumont wait until Venice in September to get this out?

Indeed, I'm stunned by the absence of Hadewijch (and, to a lesser extent, the latest by Todd Solondz and Hong Sangsoo).

You must ask the absence of "Hadewijch" Thierry Fremaux. He is the artistic director of Cannes and select the films. For me Bruno Dumont is still one of the great director of contemporary cinema. Please look at the official selection.I like Lars Von Trier,Michael Haneke,Quentin Tarantino,Ken Loach,Ang Lee,Gaspar Noe,Park Chan Wook,Jacques Audiard,Alain Resnais,Pedro Almodovar, Marco Bellocchio and wait their new films..But the others...I don't know. There are some fair directors among the list.

It is because of the plot hole in the movie that renders the main character pointless. Any terrorist could plant a bomb; she is not needed. Had she been a suicide bomber as suggested in the story, this would have been a different movie, possibly worthy of awards.
