Did Jonathan Ames know BTD was going to be cancelled while writing S. 3?

Did Jonathan Ames write the Season 3 story arc (or at least the series finale) with the knowledge that this was going to be the final season no matter what? Or did he only find out about the cancellation after all of the episodes were written and filmed?

If it's the former, then that's a pretty twisted way to end the series, with Jonathan ending up with his biological half-sister. Funny, but twisted nonetheless.

But if Ames had planned to continue the show beyond this season, then it's a shame that we won't ever be able to see how the half-sister/biological father story arc would've played out. Not to mention the further escapades of Jonathan, Ray, and George.

Either way, I'm going to really miss this show. I kind of knew it might not make it to Season 4, but I was still surprised and disappointed when I heard the cancellation news the other day.

Yeah, he is. He's the writer/creator.

I hope you're kidding. Jonathan Ames is absolutely a real person:

it's on the end of every episode and your just plain stupid if you just ignore the fact that he's on internet a real human.

I think he did know it because it is a real end, but I still want to know what will happen after but I guess we will never know :'(

Casting Keach as his "semen father" was a nice touch. Mike Hammer himself and a son who's completely the opposite as a private eye.

To me it seemed like a really great ending to the series. With the incest thing it sort of projected that these kinds of story lines will just keep going on forever with the characters.

I'm sure he at least had it in mind that the show could end since it's a finale that could work both as a good hook between seasons and as a satisfying ending.
