RIP Bored to Death
Cancelled along with Hung and How to Make it in America
shareI loved this show but it's better this way. It ended on a nice note, even if Johnathan ended up with his sister. I'm happy it's done and will stay like that.
shareI tend to agree. Love the show, but I couldn't help but feel it was already running out of gas from a creative storyline standpoint. The humor was still great and the actors are phenomenal, but it doesn't work unless there is a great storyline that you care about.
shareI hate you HBO. First Deadwood now this.
Do networks have non-compete clauses with writers or do they own the rights to the show even after it gets canceled? I'm surprise other networks don't try to scavenge shows that get canceled even though they may have success
At least it didn't end on a huge cliffhanger or with all of the characters mad at eachother or something, so it could have been worse.
I just don't understand how Enlightened made it. It has a loyal fanbase but its really, really tiny (an article I read said that it had the tiniest audience of the canceled shows). A lot of entertainment sites don't seem to even cover it and it seemed to be getting a pretty mixed reaction outside of the 12 or so people that deeply loved it. Im just not sure how the Golden Globe changed their opinion that much, I get that networks are award and critical acclaim hungry but its not as though it received critical acclaim on the level of The Wire or this gives Laura Dern a lock for an Emmy nom (the award show networks tend to care about most).
Its just strange to me and I'd easily trade in Enlightened and How to Make it in America (did not enjoy it) for another season of Bored to Death. Sure Enlightened started to find its way later on in the season but not enough more to say "wow, this show has improved so dramatically that I'd actually give a *beep* if it gets a second season or not."
"Walk down the right back-alley in Sin City, and you can find anything...."
I think the amount of Emmy nominations that Enlightened has received saved it. I'm sure HBO is counting on a lot more viewers who have not heard of it before the Emmys. I hope it does get a bigger audience. It's a great show and Laura Dern and Dieane Ladd are awesome in their roles.
I am upset about Hung & Bored to Death. They should at least give us an hour or two hour episode to wrap each show up. You listening HBO????
Goddammit. This just plain sucks. Very upsetting.
Now, if Community is canned, that'll be kicking me when I'm down. It's always the good shows....
"Yeah. That IS a gun in my pants. But that doesn't mean I'm not happy to see you.."-Deadpool
It's a horrible shame as I love this show, but I kind of saw it coming. Danson's off doing the CSI thing next year, and both Jason and Zach will presumably be concentrating on their film careers. And at least we got a finale that really suited the show's offbeat sense of humour, with all three embarking on new relationships, even if they may be unconventional ones!
share@alexfinchy - I think you're on to something there. HBO probably probably didn't want to allocate the budget of what this cast wanted to be making for the show in order to keep it going.
shareIt was the best show on TV. I just canceled HBO.
shareSorry, Jason Schwartzman. You and your adorable hair will be missed.

Damn shame as it was suitably entertaining with some great characters. Another season at least would of been great, however at least they didn't leave it on a cliffhanger like Deadwood.
