Graphic Novel/DVD

I actually picked up the graphic novel for this in 2001, when I started going to the comic book store again as an adult. It was on a total whim, and when I opened it there was a little card inside that said it was one of 2,000 hand-signed books. Unfortunately, I let a couple of druggies borrow it and they got it all *beep* up with water and snow, so it's not in the best shape, although it is readable.

Has anyone else read the graphic novel? Seen the movie? How do they compare? The review above is pretty harsh, but the graphic novel is kind of like that, too (everyone dies, etc etc). It's not supposed to be very obvious or linear in the typical Hollywood story sense, and even as compared to independent animation shorts you would see at Hertzfeldt's and Judge's "The Animation Show" it is pretty bizarre and out there, also very dark. It's a very visual book, and I would imagine, given the unique art style, that an animated version would be really cool.

Anyone know when this is going to be out on DVD? It was playing at the Boston Independent Film Festival last week, but I missed it.
