conection to montauk monster?

Okay, so according to a blog site, there is supposed to be a connection between this movie and the silly "montauk monster" that was found in New York back in mid July.

Can anyone shed some light on this, was this "monster" just a prop for this movie or what?

Is this just it's own viral campaign to get hype built up for this movie?

Curious minds want to know,

The movie is being filmed in Patchogue on Long Island which is roughly 68 miles from Montauk. I can not see how there is a relation, unless they were on location out east.

This was from Newsday.com
Like a relentless stalker in a cheesy horror movie, the Montauk Monster keeps popping up for one last scare.

So when will the curtain finally drop on this Long Island thriller? Judging by the buzz, not very soon.

The latest, according to the East Hampton Star: The monster has been stolen from the backyard of Eric Olsen, a Montauk real estate agent who said he had taken the corpse from Ditch Plains Beach, where it was "discovered" July 12.

That day, three Montauk friends -- Jenna Hewitt, 26, Rachel Goldberg, 29, and Courtney Fruin -- snapped a picture of the creature, which fanned the flames of a story that has become bigger and more complicated ever since.

But some claim there could be a shady backstory to the whole deal. Media blog Gawker has reported the theory that Goldberg is the sister of indie filmmaker Darren Goldberg. It says someone connected to the film might have planted a monster prop on the beach as part of a viral marketing ploy to promote his new flick, "Splinterheads."

The film's Web site says, "We have the Montauk Monster" under a picture of the creature.

Under that theory, Hewitt, Goldberg and Fruin may have come upon the critter accidentally.

Hewitt's mother, Janis Hewitt, a writer for the Star, said Rachel and Darren are not related. According to her, Rachel Goldberg's only brother, Gregory, works at a Montauk restaurant with his sister and Jenna Hewitt.

"These girls have no desire to bring any attention to themselves," Janis Hewitt said Friday. "They wouldn't even think of creating a hoax like this."

She added, "This all has been blown out of proportion."

Cue the credits? Not yet.

I wonder how much hot water these guys will be in for trying to pull a scam?

Nothing confirmed yet? I just want to know because I've been waiting for griffins to come back for a long while now. So, this better not be some prop. heh. Great prop, if so!

The Montauk Monster isn't in the movie. These guys just tried to cash in on the publicity because they were shooting near the beach where the monster thing washed up.

I dont believe there is a connection. This link has some more information on this subject.

So why is it that there have been no pictures of Lea Thompson posted on their site with all the other ones?

too many holes in the validity of this "movie company".

I have seen a lot of stories claiming that the Motoauk monster was in fact a movie prop.

Although no cast iron confirmation as yet and there all basically copies of the same news report.

If it is simply a movie prop then it a damn good one since the skin the decomposition effect and other details are very good and there are a lot of details on it one would simply not expert to see on a fake.

I did get kind of suspisious that the whole thing was a fake when I saw an interview with the bimbos who took the pics.

They werte not acting at all like people who had taken a pic of something historic and amazing.
if the claimed circumstannces had been real you would have expected those bimbos to have gotten a lot more PO,ed at the people saying they were liars and fakers.

PS I don't think there is any legal come back on this.the only possible charge would be fraud and that usually only works if a victim of the fraud has been defrauded of money.
