Mikes son getting detatched

It was a bit far-fetched that on their very first patrol, especially as the Sgt was instructing them, how Mikes son was soon detatched from his fellow troops. They would have stayed tight-knit on their first taste of REAL action.
And why would he get a rubbish radio?
However, excellent drama!

It's not likely, but not an impossible scenario either.

If the detachment was caused by chance, each patrol has an equal probability.
If the detachment was caused by inexperience, the earliest patrols have a higher probability.
If the radio quality was caused by chance, then it's breakdown has an equal probability. Human factor for the radio would be unlikely.

Combination: somewhat higher probability on a first patrol.

The overall crude probability of a British soldier dying in Iraq was 0.2 percent, or 2 out of 1000 served. Half of the deaths were non-war-related fatalities, that is, auto accidents, illnesses, etc.

did find it a bit unlikely a british solider getting detached like that on his own away from his mates ,surely he wouldnt wonder off........and how did he not take any of the enemy before he was killed not even one
