It's not actually a sequel. The director admits to being heavily influenced by Streets (thus similar casting and character names) but ultimately the rights holders are either Larry Gordon, Walter Hill or Universal studios none of whom have any connection to this film.

An unofficial sequel because the director loved Streets Of Fire so much. However, Cody doesn't have a happy ending. They told his story in a realistic manner.
