Questions (Spoilers)

Hi IMDB Users,

I just finished watching this movie on Netflix streaming and need some clarification on a few things.

1. Who is the blond girl with Clara in the present day scenes? I originally thought she was the surviving child who may have dyed her hair blond, but that daughter was killed later in the movie. Who is she and why does she refer to Clara as "mother"?

2. Did Emilia "rat out" the second daughter as she was approaching or did the soldiers just shoot her because they suspected she got out of line? What indication did her father even have that Emilia would take his daughter? I replayed that part a few times and I didn't "get" that message from the eye contact that was made.

3. What is the purpose of referring to their child as "the child" all the time. Is it common for Jewish women to refer to their children that way or was it at one time? I think her name is said a few times, but every other reference has been "the child."

4. Why did her "memories" end when she walked to the nanny's home? Why not show that connection so we know how she managed to survive until the war was over? I don't mean the nitty-gritty details, but some type of "closure" to that story.

I look foward to hearing the responses to these questions. I have seen many movies on the war and the Holocaust and I have never finished one this stumped for answers.

I just watched the movie on Netflix too. I really liked the movie although several things were very confusing. I'll try to give you my take on a few things

(1)You may want to read my answer to alcrecy's post...Basically the blond girl is Clara's daughter from a marriage after she survived the holocaust.

(2)It seemed to me that Emilia was giving him eye contact saying that she would take care of the child. I believe that she was very distraught and felt terrible that Artur was now in danger(and she was partially responsible) and she would have taken care of the child. She did love Artur.

(3)Possibly that was written in the script that way to emphasize the vulnerability and innocence of this little girl who was being hunted by the Natzi's. In essense to emphasize the cruelty of the situation for a child. But I don't know....

(4)I think this would have taken away from the impact of the first part of her saga...The farmhouse....I think they did the right thing in the script. In her memories she recounts that she crawled out of the pit where the rest of her family was lying and found sanctuary with the nanny (until the war was over?)...This is enough for me....
