I agree. This movie haunted me for days after I saw it. Very moving and I thought realistic of what could happen under these circumstances.I thought young Clara, young Emilia and older Clara were excellent actresses.

Yes, Clara's blond daughter was from a future marriage after she had survived the holocaust. She was not Artur's and Emilia's daughter as it seems the script writer wanted you to believe throughout most of the movie. The fact that she looked so physically similar to Emilia made it super confusing.

The main weak link in this movie was this blond 20 something daughter of Clara. Not only was she a terrible actress, her relationship to everything and everyone in the movie was very muddled. She almost seemed like an unnecessary adjunct to this movie. I felt that the main reason they wrote her into the story was to make us think throughout most of the movie that she was Artur's and Emilia's daughter from the past that perhaps Clara had adopted. The script writer probably thought this would be an interesting twist. I found it confusing and distracting.

But overall I really liked this movie!! Unique to most holocaust movie's and well done overall. It should have a higher rating!

I agree with both of you. I think it's a beautiful and compelling story. I also think the rating system on this site is unfair in the sense that ratings don't necessarily represent a fair sampling of the population, as a whole, versus more of a popularity contests of those with the means to vote. What I mean is people that might be interested in a story about two families sharing space during the war might be more appealing to a demographic that doesn't have internet access or doesn't come to IMDB to vote. Therefore, it's really hard to gauge a movie's success and true appeal.

I totally agree with all of the posts here! Admittedly, I bought the movie mainly because it stars Joseph Fiennes, whom I adore; I expected the movie itself to pale in comparison with THE PIANIST, a much more famous film set in wartime Poland. While SPRING 1941 clearly lacked the production budget of THE PIANIST, it managed to be a first-rate film even so. Joseph Fiennes, in my opinion one of the most emotionally affecting actors around today, is heartrending in his major scenes. (He does a great job with the Polish accent, too.) The horrific scene early in the movie where Artur's family climbs the wall to escape the ghetto still haunts me.
