Like, whats up with the word Like????

I am not trying to be mean or start anything by this post. I am just wondering if anybody else that isnt a selfish young adult, thinks that using the word LIKE every other word is Annoying!!!!

I really do not hear smart people and older people over kill with that word. The girl, Morgan I believe....she says it so much that I cannot stand to hear her talk.

It is like, she like, cant think of other words like to use when she is talking. And like it is annoying!

I am really bad at english myself, but at least I have a wider vocabulary :)

It is annoying, but I DO catch myself saying it every now and then, lol. That and I've picked up "I know, right?" also...

I am 14 years old, and I AM smart, I am in honors and all that stuff AND I USE LIKE ALL THE FREAKIN TIME! If Morgan bothers you that much stop watching the show.

Love is just a figure of your mind it dosn't really exist.

ok, so like heres the thing, when your like a teenager you like use the word without even thinking its almost like a word you use to fill up space when your like thinking of what to say. i do it like all the time and cant stop myself. it becomes like such a bad habit.

Your post would've been a lot lot easier to read, without all those annoying "likes" in it.

The LIKE every other word has been used since I was a teenager, which was almost 10 yrs ago and it was just as annoying then. My father actually made me resay all my sentences whenever I used the word out of context and used it like the teenagers in the show does. What is funny it still annoys me and I correct my nieces and nephews all the time its just one of those things that will never go away no matter how much we wish it would.

Like is just like the word um for teens. People say umm unintentionally to fill in when they are thinking or if they are talking without thinking beforehand. Neither are necessary, but it's a habit many teens can't break. I remember in 8th grade our science teacher took off points during presentations if we said um, uh, like, so, etc. It's hard to do! I think it's more noticeable when Morgan does it because she's speaking right off the bat and she's on tv, where most things are scripted. It gets annoying when you go past a certain extent, but saying like is very normal.

Well, she didn't know how to change a diaper or not to drag a toddler by the arm. Hence, her overuse of "like" is more like a conformation that she is in over her head with kids. I'm not trying to be mean, I just think she lacks a little more maturity than most of the other couples.

Her actual use of the word "like" as every other word really was upsetting to me (for lack of better phrasing). I rather wish she had a larger vocabulary; however, regardless of her wording, I didn't like Morgan at first, but I do like how she stepped up to the plate and accepted responsiblity.
I expect good things from her here on out.

I used to be the worst to say "like" every other word. As the others have stated, it's just a space filler. I now have replaced "like" with "um" to try to fill space. I think everyone has their own little things like that. Also, if you've ever seen Laguna Beach, you'll see that she's not alone. lol...

She looks and sounds jst like Kristen Cavaleri. The resembelance is eerie. The way her voice sounds, the way she constantly says the word "like", I guess it'sa California thing.

I am 26 years old, I have seen this trend increase over the years.

I remember hearing it in junior high, which was about 12 years ago.

I accept the fact that people say it a bunch.

It is a substitute for people saying "ummmmmmm"!

reply

Many of the times that she said it she was using it to describe something.
I'm 16 and I say it a lot.
Like, I don't mean I like, say it like, every other word. But I do say it.

reply

It really started back about 1983 (when I was 12) with the "Valley Girls" trend, and it's been getting worse ever since.

I guess it's not as bas as people using the "f" word every second word, but it's still as annoying as hell.

reply

Lots of people did that in my Women Writers class last quarter.

If "like" were taken out of their conversations, I'd have a much easier attention paying attention to them. When they spoke though, I'd be so bored that I couldn't wait for class to end.
