Beautiful scenery

Scotland is indeed a beautiful country. I believe this is filmed in and around Edinburgh.

Most of the outside filming was done in the village of Wanlockhead, Dumfries and Galloway - in the Lowther Hills. The Highlands it is not, the Southern Uplands it is.

The Hotel is actually the local youth hostel. Euan's office is the Miner's library - for which some interior shooting was done (The computer and filing boxes seen in the background of some shots are near the door of the Library). A number of cottages nearby were "dressed" to appear as the various shops - in fact, Wanlockhead has no shops, other than at the Hidden Treasures Mining museum.

A number of outside scenes were shot nearby, eg. in the Mennock Pass, in episode four where Hanna decides she cannot leave Hope Springs, preventing the girls from catching their flight. An early and brief shot (episode one), indicating the train journey to Scotland, shows a train crossing a bridge - I think (so don't take this as gospel as I have not yet checked it) this was shot just north of the village of Crawford (South Lanarkshire) where the railway crosses the Clyde - the train shown is actually heading South, leaving Scotland!
