So sad

I found this film utterly heart wrenching. Also very moving. The father was like, this perfect human being. Of course, naive, blind and wrong headed, but the heart of the character was overwhelmingly pure. For this reason, it actually reminded me a lot of Life Is Beautiful. That same kind of theme of love conquers all even in the darkest of situations. And I felt deeply for the daughter too, who, incidentally, despite her having been cast as some kind of plain Jane character, I could not see it myself and only saw a rather stunning classical beauty. And I do wonder if that was a deliberate choice...to make one empathise with her character more. Which kind of lets the idea (of unconditional love) down a little.
