Ignorant filmakers take the shine off this doc.

McDonalds and KFC in Mumbia is "progress"?????

This is a good documentary with one gaping hole in it. The filmmakers understand NOTHING of Globalisation, poverty or politics and frankly, I found their lack of knowledge cringe-worthy.

He slates the Indonesian Band, who where Muslims in one of the most abused nations in the World for their stance on ZIONISM as if this is a wrong-minded view.

That country has been ripped off by corrupt governments in league with the west, especially the US for decades. It is one of the poorest nations in the World due to foreign debt for projects that have mostly never been finished such as Enron power stations.

The makers may know something of Metal but they know ZERO about history or politics. If I was the guy from the Indonesian band, I'd still be punching the guy.

What a fool!

While I agree with your comments regarding McDonald's and KFC, I never for a moment took the filmmakers stance as Metal being quite the same. I enjoyed seeing how different countries took this one thing - Heavy Metal - added to it while still keeping true to it.

As far as the issue the filmmakers took with the Indonesian band who said that all Zionist should be wiped off the face of the earth, are you actually saying the filmmakers should not have condemned such comments? I am fully aware of how Indonesia has been treated and abused in the past but that does not excuse comments about wiping out a group of people. In Norway there are were numerous church burnings, as well as several murders, by Norwegian Death Metal bands who felt Christianity should be wiped out of Norway. The main argument they make is about Christians forcing Norwegians to convert hundreds of years ago. Many of these bands have turned to a form of Paganism that was native to Norway, basically Odin worship. Understanding the reasons , the issues and the rationale does not excuse the behavior. It is not acceptable to burn down a building or murder someone, or call for the annihilation of a group of people because one has issues with another. In one section of the movie they even discuss an Israeli metal band receiving a bomb in the mail from a Norwegian Death Metal band. Is it ok that the bomb was sent by a Norwegian band or in your mind does the bomb need to come from a country that was abused and taken advantage of by another to make it justified?

The movie was not made to discuss the pros and cons of the geopolitical issues specific to each country but instead to show how the geopolitical issues have effected Heavy Metal music being created in each country. And I feel they did a good job of that.

Heavy Metal certainly has a history of controversy, usually unjustified, and bands singing about killing others is nothing new. I have no problem with fans making the choice in what they take seriously or not but please don't tell me the filmmakers were wrong to condemn the Indonesian band's politics because you think they should have more compassion due to what Enron did over there.

i also got that impression when he said that his view of Japan was a country 'obsessed with Western culture', when Japan has one of the most unique cultures in the world.

All in honesty, ignorance of politics is far more common in the metal scene, particularly in the west, than it is in hardcore. The only 'politics' i ever hear about in metal is from the extreme right, with few exceptions. So what did you expect?

If anything, global metal at least demonstrated, on a very superficial level, that in the east bands/fans are more 'in touch' with the genre's rebellious roots, which is something we have either forgotten about, or at least take for granted, therefore diluting its power, in the west.

Dude relax, he just knew that zionists are probably gonna pay for his movie so he'd better not even go there.

Why even get into that *beep* when you fully know these people run every aspect of entertainment and media?
