Am I The Only One Who Was Disgusted By The Dog Part?

first of all i liked this movie it was somewhat funny & charming but the bit with the dog story at first just really shocked me,beacuse i knew holly was not totally right in the head i wasnt disturbed by it but then came along the statement that the masseuse made and it totally disgusted me and almost ruined the movie for me,i mean seriously condoning recieving sexual pleasure from an animal?! im not a prude or anything but that was just way too much.
so did anybody else feel this way?

...now,where was I?

nope, you weren't the only one... when i was watching, i was like, "um, really? was that even remotely necessary?"

It's mercy, compassion and forgiveness I lack. Not rationality...

It's probably because of Holly, who I found so very charming, lovely and endearing, but I thought it worked really well for the scenario the movie did set up. The entire scene is somehow so surreal for its most part, for example because of the reaction the masseuse shows. :D I thought the scene was mostly funny and I interpret the whole encounter in this apartment as a whole, not just her story. So being rather a part of a story arc, than a thing for itself, I'm cool with it. If you think about it, the whole encounter was more about Holly explaining or coming to terms with her behavior, than shocking the audience, where the story just served as underlying reason for her problem. It really gives it some sense, the story wouldn't have worked without a "strong experience", so something like this had to be there. That's what keeps it from being cheap. It's not even a catchphrase, no spewing of words that are simply supposed to be cool and therefore end up being just lame. Many movies don't make such an effort, to deliver that much coherence. In comparison, the story of many action movies would still work, if you would leave out certain action scenes, they are just there for the action itself and nothing else, that's a huge difference.

I disagree as I thought it was a moment of honesty shared between two strangers. There are things everyone is ashamed of and keep to themselves. However disgusting it may seem she was clearly moved by the experience.

That was one of the best stories told on film to go along with the Gremlins Santa in the chimney story. 10/10

The best possible combination would have been Phoebe Cates launching into the dog story (rather than the Santa story) in the middle of GREMLINS.

Yep. I'm a pretty open-minded person, but that story was waaaaaaay too far out there for me to handle.

At the beginning it was pretty odd to me but the way she told that and the whole scene...Don't know, it seems even a little moving 'cause you see how much she cared about it. Surely it was original! ahah But I was not that much disgusted by it.

Made me really uncomfortable. Kind of ruined the film for me.
