It's probably because of Holly, who I found so very charming, lovely and endearing, but I thought it worked really well for the scenario the movie did set up. The entire scene is somehow so surreal for its most part, for example because of the reaction the masseuse shows. :D I thought the scene was mostly funny and I interpret the whole encounter in this apartment as a whole, not just her story. So being rather a part of a story arc, than a thing for itself, I'm cool with it. If you think about it, the whole encounter was more about Holly explaining or coming to terms with her behavior, than shocking the audience, where the story just served as underlying reason for her problem. It really gives it some sense, the story wouldn't have worked without a "strong experience", so something like this had to be there. That's what keeps it from being cheap. It's not even a catchphrase, no spewing of words that are simply supposed to be cool and therefore end up being just lame. Many movies don't make such an effort, to deliver that much coherence. In comparison, the story of many action movies would still work, if you would leave out certain action scenes, they are just there for the action itself and nothing else, that's a huge difference.
