What makes this movie worse than Silver Linings Playbook?

I just saw this movie for the first time and absolutely loved it. Then I checked its critics ratings and IMDB rating and was utterly confused and discombobulated, at such low scores it received. So, I ask and wonder what did people not like about Serena? I hated Silver linings playbook, found it to be pretentious and a drag. I loved Serena so much more and think it is underrated.
