Serena bombs at the UK box office

Waited too long to release I guess, audiences lost interest.

The average cinema-goer probably isn't aware of when, how, or why films are delayed for release, or suffer production issues, etc., unless the wider media makes something of it. I didn't appreciate much anticipation for Serena, and the marketing hasn't been great, either. It's also a fairly strong week, competition-wise. However, bowing at No. 19 with less than £100,000 taken is very poor. Particularly one one considers how hot the leads are. But then there's the subject matter and a type of film that's not bound to have widespread appeal without that key marketing. Still, this kind of thing happens.

No, I think the word has gotten out that it's a crummy movie. Even most big fans aren't that masochistic.

Since when did the quality of a film play a part at the box office? The public makes up its own mind what it wants to see, although better distribution would surely have helped Serena. Which isn't a "crummy movie;" it's not a very good movie, either. But isn't entirely bereft of merit despite its flaws, has much to entice patient viewers and boasts good performances, splendid scenery and great cinematography.

Lmao! Looks like this new silver screen couple has lost their winning streak. Strange how JLaw's HG fans couldn't boost the BO. I mean she is Hollywood's 'IT' girl at the moment. Wonder if Twilight fans will support KStew's upcoming films.....hahahahahaha!

reply

Good. Start chipping away at the myth of J. Law being the most powerful actress in Hollywood.

You four-eyed psycho.

Typical from a disgruntled Mia fan.

What about Tracks? Mia's fantastic film that I had to purchase the Italian DVD version just to see it.
This had great reviews from the festivals yet still tanked beyond belief. Serena with all of it's problems and delays will no doubt make far more money than Mia's film. Why so quick to celebrate when a female in a leading role has a movie that bombs at the BO?

Kind of a shame that because an actress may be doing better than your favorite, that some have to resort to bashing.
Anyway to take down actresses I guess instead of supporting them so we can see them in more leading roles.

Tracks is a splendid movie. Certainly one of this year's best and far more realised in every way than Serena. Which is neither here nor there, really. They're different films and one's success and virtues means nought in relation to the other's shortcomings. And although box office figures are interesting and topical, a good film is a good film regardless of revenue. And Tracks is a good film.
