did jennifer lawrence sucks in this movie?

I really havent seen this movie, so I am very curious to know what is the main factor that makes this movie below average or almost mediocre, anyone can give me their opinions ?

Jen did not suck...in fact, she was the best part of this movie. The film was beautifly shot, but thd editing was aweful. It had been hacked to pieces, and some of the dialogue was a bit cringe worthy. Worth seeing for Jen's acting though :-)!

Agree with you ,Jennifer worked with the poor tools she got to work with. Bad directing bad script bad everything. Feel sorry for her. Ill bet she agrees.

reply

Hmm... Not so sure about beautifully shot. The handheld camera was a total distraction to me, although the lighting and settings were great.

reply

Nope she did a great job and some scenes in particular are some of her best.

Take me as I am, or leave me the way you found me

reply

Yes, Jen was certainly the highlight of the movie. And in some scenes truly heart breaking.

I've written a script with Jen in mind as the lead. It's a comedy Life As Liz. PM if interested.

Couldn't agree more, I can't understand what the fuss is about.

I laugh in the face of danger, then I hide until it goes away.

Jennifer made one movie and didn't deserve as Oscar had the word silver in it. And I did like her in that. But after that she's like 99 percent of the actresses under 40 there script readers and one dimensional. They can't act.

Ewwww gross!

"Mortdecai is an embarrassment for all involved."

reply

That did sound gross didn't it. The period part. Well what's the difference.

Could barely go halfway through. I used to like Jennifer Lawrence. But these days she's becoming so repetitive, bores me to death with her one note acting, drowsy drug addict like voice and forced facial expressions. No matter what genre she does she plays the same character over and over.

Normally, I like her work, but here her main contributions were to the belly laughs.

Her fault? I dunno. Bad editing—which this movie is chock full of—can make any actor look bad. You also have the whole villain/victim dichotomy going, where the movie can't decide whether she's a sympathetic character or a monster.

And note that you also have audience expectations: Lawrence and Cooper play affable, heroic characters—and in the top 3 movies last year (Mockingjay, Guardians, Sniper) to boot—but here they're playing awful people. Do they have the range?

Again, I dunno, but it just made for weirdness here. Bier had a similar tonal problem in "Love Is All You Need", which was supposed to be a rom-com.

I thought she was blah.
She's not the worst, but acting is not good either for a supposed Oscar winner. Ive seen better acting in my high school play. I feel like Jennifer Lawrence overreacts a bit and only got that Oscar based on popular opinion. And no critic is ballsy enough to criticize her nowadays. The Academy Awards is a joke.

It also didn't help that movie was a snooze fest. Obviously a flop from the trailer itself.

She didnt suck but both her and Bradley were shockingly bad compared to how good I know they can be (last movie I saw before this was American Sniper which imo is Bradley's best performance to date). They were not the worst actors of the movie though. The movie itself was... well I dont even know. It wasnt good but it wasnt bad. None of the things going on in the movie is excelling. If you want to see if you should, I dont feel like I wasted any time watching it as I have wanted to watch it for a while BUT you shouldnt have high hopes for it.

Brad Cooper does not have enough real acting experience to put in a good performance in anything, he is typical "celebrity Americana", meaning people love him because of the hype, not for his performances. In American Sniper his performance was wooden, he fails to show any emotion in what was suppose to be a very difficult emotional situation, so too, was his performance in Silver Linings Playbook....again he fails to show appropriate emotion just gets excited and talks fast. He is not meant to be a serious actor, he can't even keep a straight face, he's always smirking! This is the guy who became a celebrity because of being in the Hangover movie series....guaranteed to get the blockbuster status, but not any kind of real actor.
Jennifer Lawrence on the other hand is great! her performance in Winters Bone, one of her first major films, was terrific, her emotions are right there, she is young yet, but having seen everything she has done thus far, I see her doing more drama in the future, as she matures, her performances will be something to see, watch for it! I particularly like how she handled the ditzy broad in American Hustle, having lived through that era, the movie was realistic and I knew lots of women like her, Jennifer L. Was spot on there!
This movie falls down because of the director and the camera work. If the movie script was nearly the same as the book, then it can only be the directors fault as to the tone and direction the actors take in the movie, if this director fails to get to the nitty gritty scary disturbing behaviour in the script is because she doesn't know how to get it from the performers, or maybe she gave up, when facing the smirking Cooper.....!
