Why is Jennifer Lawrence getting 2nd billing?

Don't get me wrong, Bradley Cooper is a talented actor, but why is he getting top billing? I think Jennifer Lawrence has proven herself as a very talented actress with 3 Oscar Nominations along with one Best Actress win (she almost pulled off back-to-back wins but did win back-to-back Globes). I know Bradley Cooper has been nominated for 2 Oscars and 2 Globes but he's yet to bring home the win.

I mean the movie is called 'Serena' shouldn't Jennifer Lawrence be given Top Billing or at least let Lawrence and Cooper share the same screen.

It's a shame that in this day and age you have an actress as talented and awarded as Jennifer Lawrence and you're still second billing her.

reply

Jennifer Lawrence is low class, so it would be inappropriate for her to be 1st.

reply

Agreed, very overrated.

Ag nonsense man! She was the best of those nominated that year. She is a really good and versatile actress, better than almost all the young-bloods out there today.

reply

You people are actually using Oscar wins and nominations as benchmarks for acting talent? That is freaking hilarious! Next you'll be rating movies the same way. Even worse, you'll be saying political nominations and wins are benchmarks for leadership skills. Oh my! This discussion is comedy at it's finest. Let's pick a crap film to discuss who should have had top billing. Really? LMFAO! Further, let's give top billing to the actress that couldn't be bother to finish the job in a timely manner? Again, really?

They should've given it for her performance in "Winter's Bone", which was amazing. She's only 24 years old and check out her awards list: 110 wins&110 nominations. You sure she didn't have it coming? She lost out to Natalie Portman that year, Nat was great too. But when you think of how much Academy favors Nat, and the controversions of the dancing of a real ballet, it is still questionable. Nat did a great job, but still many critics say that the Academy loved her performance because they thought she could also dance! Which was all the way wrong, because it was a real ballerina who was dancing. When you delete all the dancing scenes then, what is left is an ambitious ballet dancer having fears of losing her part.. But Jen's performance hit me in the face in Winter's Bone. So next year, she played a "crazy widow" which she turned into a surprisingly shocking character. She made such an ordinary persona a remarquable one.
So she deserved it big time. Maybe Emanuella Riva in "Amour" could've also won. But the others gave sooo ordinary performances.. JLaw brought sth defo new into her character.

And here I thought I was the only one that isn't impressed at all by her.

I laugh in the face of danger, then I hide until it goes away.

Haters gonna hate, what can you do?

'Well I've got two words for you - STFU'

What an idiot

'Well I've got two words for you - STFU'

reply

Maybe it was agreed upon a few years back before she became Hollywood's top actress.
? just a guess

Billing is negotiated in the actor's contract. At the time the contracts were signed BC was far more known than JL. So she got second billing.

reply

That and her "acting" sucks.

reply

Lawrence will never dominate the way Natalie Portman did with Black Swan (clean sweep of every Best Actress award on earth).

I doubt she cares since she is the youngest actress to get three Oscar nominations ever. With one win and two Golden Globes to go along with them. Not to mention top billing in what is soon to be three $400 million blockbusters.

Not to mention..Jennifer Lawrence doesn't have to answer for god awful Star Wars acting. Portman's work in that is the stuff that usually ends careers. And if it wasn't for the fact that she was playing opposite an even worse actor in Hayden Christensen, she would have looked even worse.

reply

Lawrence swept almost every award for Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook. Only missed a couple.

And why are you comparing it anyway? Portman is a good actress, so is Lawrence.

reply

Yeah, I don't see why people have to get partisan about who is acting. Both have done great jobs in several films. Both have played roles in blockbusters. Each has her own talents.

I want to see both of them do more good films. Not seeing why it has to be an either-or.

Right now, Portman is the one who owes us a good, serious film.

reply

If it's really bothering you that much, I'm curious: why not simply write to the producers and ask them?

reply

I'd say it's because Cooper's character is the lead protagonist and the film is mostly about him or told more from his perspective.

Just because the film is called Serena, it doesn't mean she's the main character.

I'm not sure why they don't do the shared credits anymore, maybe it's a union thing?

reply

Exactly. The Boy In The Stripped Pajamas, the kid isn't the main character, it's Bruno. He's still a huge part of the story, just not the Main character. Same with this movie.

reply

Very true. And he marries her, not the other way around. It's his story, not hers.

reply

She doesn't swallow.

reply

Maybe the leaked phone pics lost her credibility.
I mean what kind of person takes nude pictures of them self?

reply

Looking at her facial pics, this looks about the time they were taken. I'm beginning to think Bradley Cooper owns the copyright to her facial pics, and insists on first billing.

OR

.. you just read what it says on the page:

Maybe it's alphabetical order.

reply

I assumed it was alphabetical order as well.

reply

Intelligent answer. It's obviously alphabetical. Jennifer Lawrence is the main character in the book and I would assume also in the movie. The posters were put out before the 'leaked photos,' so that has nothing to do with the placement on the promotional material. And at this point in time, Jennifer Lawrence is a bigger draw than Bradley Cooper.
