Star Trek: Voyager

I know that a lot of people don't think much of that series, but I still don't think it deserves to be associated with this "Smutty Alien" school-boy humour crap.

I've recently started watching Voyager again, so it was a bit surreal to hear that.

I hated it's use for that entire sketch. But then I hated the sketch anyway.

I'm a bit surprised paramount even allowed it, although I don't know why.

I just realised; there's a bit of the Star Trek Nemesis soundtrack in there too...

What does the Smutty Aliens, have to do with Star Trek: Voyager? Did I miss something?

You know, this was one of the only sketches on the show that I DIDN'T much like...until now!

If the real point of all those gags was to parody Star Trek as the metaphoric wank that it is, then I love it!!!!! Most sci-fi parodies take sci-fi too seriously and don't really dig in to trash the genre as a whole. If this is really a take on Star Trek, then I'm impressed.

Most of the sketches that the casual watchers think are "simple" or "crude" have additional layers like this. That is a big part of why I like the show, and I think that's why most casual watchers are hating it too. People just get the crude, simple layer and miss all the rest.

Like the bottle fairies, for example. That's funny on a basic level, ha ha, little mischvevious fairies - but much funnier on the metaphoric level, which is the forces that seem to be uncorked from a bottle, and how far they seem from us when we're intoxicated and actually doing those things. The sketch ends and you don't know if he did all that, or if it was the "fairies", because the whole show exists in that sort of surreal alternate universe where anything is possible, including flying bottle elves. Or not.

*sigh* but this might be lost on Star Trek fans, who are offended that their favorite show is being picked on. Come on! Even good sci fi is all about gratification fantasies, IE the wank. This sketch puts that concept right out on the table and makes us laugh at it for a few minutes. I think everyone deserves to be teased sometimes - even super-serious sci-fi fans.
