How did this get a second series?

The first series was a ratings flop, so how? Are the BBC just happy to make it because its cheap filler for their schedules?

reply

If you don't like it, don't watch it.

reply

I'm not watching it, I'm asking how it got a second series. Or was my original message too complicated?

reply

No, it wasn't too complicated, so don't get sarcastic with me. I just wondered why you were bothering to ask it given that you don't watch it.

Perhaps they've recommissioned it because it's actually quite good and a lot of people enjoy it.

reply

If you don't want me to get sarcastic with you then don't get flippant with me. I asked the question because (despite what you may think) the first series was a ratings failure and only achieved an average audience of 1.25 million viewers (the lowest episode only got 1.02). Those kinds of figures usually get a show cancelled, even on BBC2.

So my question remains....how did this get a second series? Is it because it's cheap to make and therefore the BBC aren't bothered if it doesn't do well?

reply

It got a second series because it has a cult following both here in the UK and the US. It is well written and acted by all actors in it and lastly it is very good indeed. Peharps the second series rates will fare better.

That's really just an opinion though, InManuel. Does anybody actually know for certain what the BBC's motive is here? With ratings this low, they usually bin a series.

reply

BBC shows have been commissioned on the strength of popularity on PBS stations. LOGO has about the same amount of viewers as PBS stations. Money talks and a sure sale to the US will ensure a commissioning. Doesn't matter that it didn't do well in the UK. If they can get money from sales to the US and Australia, they don't need to mind low viewer ratings in the UK. What do you care any way? It's not as if you are going to watch.

Speak freely while you still can

I care because I am interested in the television industry and the factors which determine programme commissioning. It's irrelevant if I intend to watch it or not. It was a genuine question and it's incredibly childish the way some people have decided to take it so personally.

reply

I sympathise with you - although i like this series and am very happy it's been recommisioned, we should be able to have a mature discussion about why it maybe shouldn't have been.

I was surprised it got a second series, seen as most critics seemed to agree it was a complete flop, and as you say the ratings were low. But then why the BBC recommision many series (or even commision them in the first place) is a mystery.

I have no idea how it got a second series. I thought it was dreadful! I'm pleased there won't be a third...
