Simon Doonan as a teenager (Time Period)

I just started watching the show and I like it alot. However, I can't seem to understand the timeline. How can this show be based on the memoires of Simon Doonan when I'm pretty certain he could not have been 15 during the late 90's. I love all the 90's references, by the way, but what do they have to do with him?

The show's just based on him.. he really would've been 15 in like.. the 60s or something, I forget. But they just changed the time period to the 90s instead. I guess it was just more convenient for the show.

I thought it was a coy play at not letting on about his age.

Vice, Virtue. It's best not to be too moral. You cheat yourself out of too much *life*.

From what I can find online, Simon Doonan was born in 1952 and would have been 15 in 1967, not 1997! He's reverse aged himself by 30 years for this series! I am just watching the first episode and it is really hard for me to get into it knowing that he was actually 45 in 1997, not 15.

Jonathan Harvey, the show's writer, decided to move it forward to the 1990s, I'm not sure why, maybe the potential for storylines and out there situations was bigger. Perhaps it was easier for him to write about a decade he had lived through and could reference more easily. He wrote some fantastic things in the 1990s.
