This guy Lance.

Something about him strikes me as being disjointed from reality; for example, when they are in that restaurant in Germany, and he ask for cold water in Spanish. I mean, who does that, if they're not a little out there?

And the old pack rat dude, he creeps me out beyond words. What sort of pervy old guy keeps boxes of bondage books, switchblades, etc.?

I felt very sorry for Lance. I wonder if he has a drug problem?

I thought that the "old rat pack dude" as you call him, was completely delusional. I think he imagined/fabricated a good deal of what he was telling Lance, and it disturbed me that Lance seemed to have no critical thinking skills.

Who knows how much time and money Lance has wasted on these wild-goose chases?

I seem to be in the minority in this discussion--I think that most of the other posters are male and like the idea of a treasure hunt. Maybe because I am kind of old, female, and am responsible for children, I have no patience with Lance going on one fool's errand after another. I keep thinking that Lance's famiy needs him at home, and all the money he's wasting could be put to better use.

Maybe if you're single and have the extra money, but that is not the situation Lance is in.

I totally agree with your assessment "that Lance seemed to have no critical thinking skills.", I think he was so blinded by greed and his desire for "the easy score" that he lost that capacity. It was obvious (to me at least) that he would have been of more use to his family at home, he placed more of a priority on his wild goose chase than he did on getting his son help with his drug problem.
One of the creepier aspects of this film, was the realization that just because someone is old, it doesn't neccesarily mean they're a nice or good person. I think the old "pack rat" dude kind of scared me, reminded me of the fact that you don't ever *really* know what is going on behind someone elses eyes.

To gg:

Thank you for your comments. The other posters seem to have very different opinions of this film and of the people in it, and I appreciate it that someone else is disturbed by the behavior depicted in the film.
