I read the synopsis..

.. and it sounds like House but instead of weird physical illnesses, it's weird mental illnesses...

.. and instead of a grumpy smartass old dude as the doc, a cool sexy fashion young one.

I read a review in the TV Guide Magazine that even went to refer one of the character as Lisa Cuddy's (from House) clone. After watching the sneek peaks on Fox's Youtube, I can verify that statement. Ripping off it's own show is not a smart move.

reply

Yeah show looks ok, but they don't have the talent of Hugh Laurie.

complete with its own Cuddy. I hate copycats...

reply

cuddy sounds like a dirty word.

reply

Wow, you just took the words from my mouth. Seriously, fox is running out of ideas.

As much as i agree with ya on fox's lack of originality. I will say one thing for them.. at least theyre not the cw or wb or w/e theyre calling themselves this week and bringing back 90210, melrose place and from what ive heard maybe even dallas? I mean this new house clone looks BAD but when ya start digging up shows that died 15-20 yrs ago cause they were suck fests back then thats just full blown mediocrity right there.

Agreed!

And, I watched the pilot last night... Not too good. It maybe even made me a little sad to see Annabella Sciorra in such an obviously cloned role. I like her.

And to go off-topic, but sort of in line with ter maximus: I read the other day that CW canceled Reaper. Maybe we'll all get lucky and Fox will buy it. Then they don't have to come up with new ideas, but can have another excellent and original show. Original in it's break from the norm, that is.

I know that it seems a lot like House, but house was such a huge success so they are probably trying to do the same. And while house focused more on weird medical mysteries with the patients, Mental focuses on the weird techniques of the head doc. The cases in Mental, though unusual are all easily defined mental illnesses (exp. schizoid, psychopath, etc). The real story revolves around the eccentric treatments of the doc.

I watched the pilot and I gotta say it wasnt too bad. Of course the plot was almost identical to House, but I find the specific cases more entertaining then the background plot that is strung between episodes. Overall, it is something i think i could watch. No replacement for Fringe, but it will hold me until Fringe comes back!
