intense religious themes at end ruin this decent comedy

i was misled thinking this was going to be a campy "make fun of armageddon movie" but instead it actually IS an armageddon movie after mostly as a comedian buddy movie. the last 1/3 of the movie turns into a fanatical christian tale of who gets to heaven. there is no joke about it, it's treated real and it doesn't fit the movie at all. the sacrifice instant access to heaven *beep* it just makes a turn into blatant propaganda for the church after a halfway decent flick that i got some chuckles from. its good to see other threads also mentioning how this is despicable. hollywood is special needs shortbus challenged.

@ cerealcinema

So just because YOU don't believe in something, Hollywood can't make a movie about it? Boy, I sure hope Hollywood never makes a movie with a dragon in it, or a leprechaun, or any singing animals.

I'm a Christian, and that's my belief. Atheist are atheists, and that's their belief. I respect atheists and their not wanting to believe in it. Not all Christians do and try to force it down their throats. Just like there are atheists that respect that Christianity is my belief, and there are atheists that try and mock my belief and force atheism down my throat.

Wouldn't the world be a better place if people respected each others beliefs, and didn't mock their beliefs, and didn't try and force their beliefs down each others throats. Jesus said that much himself.

That being said, this movie was not based on Christian belief. This was a mock comedy based loosely on the Book of Revelations, and I found it very funny. If you're secure in your beliefs no matter what your belief is Christianity, Islam, Agnostic, Atheism, etc, then it shouldn't bother you one bit.

How would you feel if people of various religions came on every non religious movie board and tried to shove their beliefs and idealisms down your throat? Seriously dude, get a life. No one here is any better than the next person for their beliefs.

Wow, talk about taking things too seriously. Church propaganda? lmao. The sheer amount of stuff this movie got wrong angered the church more than it did help it.

I'm a Christian and I can tell you this movie did not promote Christianity, at all. You don't get into Heaven for being "good" like this movie teaches. You get into Heaven for accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. That's it.

(Ephesians 2:8-9) - "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast."

Woah, what the hell crawled up your ass.

If you're a Christian, the point is to improve upon yourself, even if you are a pedophile. Saying you're a Christian and being a Christian are two different things. If you say you're a Christian and you're out raping kids(or anyone for that matter) you might as well save yourself the saliva. How about you think things through before you start spewing *beep* from your mouth? If the idea of Christianity wanting to promote some sort of good sickens you, then that's inherently your own problem.

As for the movie, it caters to no one. The last bits of it were about self sacrifice. The apocalypse was the Biblical apocalypse, and the afterlife was Christian themed, but that was about it. The movie was purely comedic in nature and the purpose of it was to make jokes and various hilarious gifs. The fact that atheists, agnostics and theists have all agreed on it is proof enough.

Oh, boohoo, the movie implies that you can cast out a demon by compelling it with the name of Jesus Christ. What are we going to do?

On a religious scale this movie obviously favors the Christian belief system, but if you're not even remotely religious this shouldn't even matter. Atheists don't believe in demons so your argument is nonsensical.

No, not it does not. Are you even aware of the point you're trying to make? When was the last time you saw a colossal demon with a colossal penis rampage through LA? I'll help you out a bit.

Never.

We aren't IN the movie. This Is the End (2013) was based in a fictional LA of a fictional Earth that we are not a part of. What you're implying is that movies like Thor and Wrath of the Titans favor mythology and those who believe in it because the movies put those beliefs in a good light so we should all just start making sacrifices to Zeus and Odin immediately.

Conceivable?

So what you're implying is that the end of days spoken of in Revelations is conceivable? Because This is the End did in fact portray a mostly Revelations Apocalypse. Following that logic, it would lend itself to believe that the rest of the Bible is unequivocally true. So them using the name of Jesus Christ to compel the demon falls in line with the rest of the movie.

As for my previous examples, Wrath of the Titans was a little off mark, but Thor in itself wasn't. The actors don't play themselves, of course, but they do play "real" characters in a "real" world. In this setting, "The End of Days" wouldn't be biblical. It would most likely follow the events portrayed in "Ragnarok".

Actually, the only reason I'm making these "awful" analogies is because you can't seem to comprehend the simplicity of this movie.

The movie uses a Christian apocalypse, it, however, is not "Christian friendly". That is the concept you can't grasp, and as you have proven time and time again, will never grasp.

Gee, you don't like Jews much, do you?

? Whole film was about Armageddon. Do you mean the entire movie offended you, as opposed to the end? Otherwise, it would seem that religion offends you period.

Ruined it for me also.

Propaganda? WTF! They are making jokes. They are comedic actors. It seems to be okay to joke about going to hell. It seems to be okay to joke about murdering people. It seems to be okay to joke about rape. It seems to be okay to joke about being possessed.

But, joke about going to heaven, and suddenly it is christian propaganda? People like you make it harder for free thinking skeptics. I'm an atheist, but entertainment in the form of fiction that incorporates religious ideas doesn't ruin my day. God didn't piss in my cornflakes. I thought it was a fairly funny movie. I think they pretty much never at any point took themselves seriously in this movie.

It's FICTION! WTF is wrong with people like you? I am going to start calling you guys fundamentalist atheist, because you are just as bad, if not worse, than the fundamentalist Christians. You are the yin to their yang. You are equally unfunny and lame. You are equally rigid and stubborn. You are equally retarded.

Intense religious themes?! ROFL! You prove that the most intolerant people are so often theists! Only a certifiable fanatic could find intense religious themes and religious propaganda in this film.
