...So, if they are demons, then why through saliva?

This is stupid. If they are demons, then why the heck do they need to pass their 'demon-ness' in such a scientific/biological way? Surely, if all this mumbo-jumbo was a Paranormal doing, then what's the point in all that quarantine? If demons pass through the saliva, then why even bother? It's so awkward...

I meant, if these demon zombies need to pass on a demonic contagion, which doesn't even make sense anyhow (contagions are scientific. Demons are mythic) why not just possess people, instead of being so awkward about what they want to be. I was like, 'well are they zombies, or demons or what? They can't be both, it doesn't add up.'
I'm used to the typical demons attack silently, and zombies cause absolute mayhem. Really, the 'demons' are attracting far too much attention to themselves.

Alas, it doesn't make any sense. This cross over is just plain confusing. One is very dow-to-earth, very real, and the other is very paranormal. You cannot fuse paranormal phenomena with a scientific concept. And don't forget, it wouldn't be as confusing if they were actual zombies, like the living dead, instead of people with rabies. It's just confusing. Why even bother? It's far too complicated. I like the idea that they are demons, giving that it relates to the typical found footage tripe(demons, ghosts, etc) but the fact that they do so, in such a scientific way. The whole epidemic, taking blood samples, mixing chemicals and such... To cure demon infected people? It just doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Mind you, the priest has more knowledge then the paramedics do, but demons are considerably discrete. They don't try and attract attention to themselves, let alone by mistake. And what about the dog? How did he get infected? And the old woman?

JESUS CHRIST, I JUST CAN'T FCKING HANDLE THIS CONFUSING CONCEPT. I HAVE NOW LOST ALL RESPECT FOR FOREIGN FILMAKERS. THEY JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT. I WAS A FAN OF THE FIRST ONE. BUT NOW I CAN'T QUITE WATCH IT. IDIOTIC, IDIOTICFILMAKERS.

Sure they can. It's a movie. Show me one demon in real life.

but demons are considerably discrete. They don't try and attract attention to themselves, let alone by mistake.

Really? Again, show me a case of a RL demon.

How did he get infected? And the old woman?

The dog got into the apartment at some point and the virus incubated in him. The dog then but the old woman.

Hmmmm...

I guess I'm so used to watching american remakes/originals where they attempt to explain everything, whereas foreign filmakers and audiences just go with it. I like the idea of demons in the apartment, possessing people and being caught and camera. I like the idea of Rec 2, just such a dramatic shift from regular zombies to something very different.

Althought they do say saliva is what spreads the infection, while listening to the recording at the end of the first film and beginning of the second that the Medeiros girl had mosquito bites on her body which worried the priest. Its then implied that a mosquito that bit her had made its way down and then, in turn, bit the dog (probably Conchita, the old sick asian man and the Colombian girl as well) and spread the infection from there

reply

What I don't get is why the priest (at the very least) wouldn't have every inch of his body covered when he went inside. No exposed skin = no way to get bit and become zombified.

(Obviously the reason is that a protagonist covered in layers of clothing doesn't make for compelling viewing, but it still kinda irks me)

reply

Listen, here it goes
Medeiros is possessed so the Vatican kidnaps her
Albelda starts experimentating on her to understand the biological effects of the possession
at some point he discovers an enzyme, and then tries to find a cure, he also discovers that the "virus" acts like the flu, so it's contagious
everything goes to hell
the priest goes in with the geos, the priest puts on the tape where mosquito bites become clear the way the infection spreaded, so there was no possible way for him to know about the mosquito bites

reply

I agree with some of what you say. They really did make the infection confusing as hell in this movie.
I understand that infection spreads around the demonic possession. Ok so it's biological, but then what the hell the priest is able to hurt/pacify them with prayers.
So if words can hurt them why can't they *beep* fly around and possess people I mean we are stretching it by including cliches from exorcisms so why the hell not.

reply

Words hurt the possessed.

But the infection is spread biologically, albeit from demonic origins.

Just like you might have a synthetic, genetically-modified foodstuff that originated as a natural food product. It started one way, but then it is propagated in a different way down the road.
