too violent + mean-spirited?

At least I thought so. Maybe if the magician was set up as a villian, but he wasn't. The violence just felt cruel & undeserved.

reply

Excuse me, but are you KIDDING?? It's a cartoon & it was incredibly funny! What kind of cruelty can you possibly be talking about? Don't read too much into this one, it was simple revenge by the rabbit who's owner had neglected to feed him.

Wasn't Presto tryna give him his carrot just b4 he got the curtain call knock on his door?

reply

Yup, but the point was that he'd forgotten to feed the rabbit before he stepped into his dressing room. He was an ignorant slob.

Nope. He was just teasing him

Violent and mean-spirited? What did Elmer Fudd ever do... I mean, rally? The whole cartoon struck me a a brilliant riff on Bullwinkle's "Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!" routine done by Bugs and Elmer. Hilarious.

reply

I was thinking of Elmer and other old cartoon classics too. Mean doesn't begin to describe some of these cartoons. When the artist is erasing Daffy to make him shut up? Cartoons are SUPPOSED to be mean. They're sooo funny.

reply

Yeah, I was never a fan of Loony Toons because violent cartoons like that never made me laugh. I think violence is disturbing, not funny. In Loony Toons, if Bugs Bunny really got shot by Elmer, then it wouldn't be for kids. It's really horrible to think about it.
I just don't see what's so funny about it.

If you are Anti-American: Admit you are doing it just to be cool. Does it feel good to hate?

I hate to break it to you but these types of hijinx and physical comedy aren't anything new. There's plenty of cartoon violence in old Disney shorts and Looney Tunes shorts. I never really felt that a cartoon was mean-spirited if say...a coyote was hit by an anvil, or Daffy Duck was shot by a shotgun and his beak fell off. There are Goofy cartoons where there are tons of animated violence for the sake of comedy like when he tries to work out with weights. The idea is that it's a cartoon so you can afford to let go of what would be regarded as violence in real life.

reply

I didn't laugh once.
Sorry.

reply

I feel sorry for you. Why do you think you didn't laugh?

Take that horse and put it back under that idiot!

@Joker62389: Why so serious?

reply

"these types of hijinx and physical comedy aren't anything new"

Certainly, BUT when its done this well, with a fresh perspective, who cares?

No.

reply

Ah angry moms :) If you think this is violent you need to get your head out of the gutter.

reply

Cruel and undeserved violence is the best kind... for humor, anyway.
