Never pick a rabbit up by its ears

That's animal cruelty. It's painful, makes it afraid and can do damage to the ears.

So what? It still creates the impression that it's OK to pick a rabbit by its ears. It's not something that happens in cartoons, people are doing this in real life as well.

The problem is; there are many hare ARE lifting rabbits by their ears. Not because of this short, but it does contribute to how people assume rabbits can be hold. Everybody knows what's impossible and what's possible in a cartoon. It's the possible part that is the problem. For instance, you should only give a rabbit some carrot now and then, because it's not their natural food.
Rabbits are the most misunderstood pet in the world, at least in the west, and they are because of mistreated on a high scale.
If you treat your rabbits fine; good for them. But there are still millions of rabbits out there who don't have a good life.

I always pick up rabbits by the ears. It makes it easier to feed them to the wolves when we lure them in as part of our campaign to make the grey wolf extinct...

Now it is time for Liam Neeson to throat punch you.
