Brilliant!

I've been watching the Pixar shorts since they started out as part of Spike and Mike's Animation festivals and I have to say that "Presto" just became my new favorite.

It was as if Chuck Jones's character reactions and comic timing were put together with Tex Avery's slapstick screwballery. So much fun!

I totally agree!! I actually had more BELLY laughs during this short than in Wall-E (which was equally brillant.

Can't wait for this to come out on DVD.

My friends and I constantly joke about the abstract concept of rabbit provocation and what would happen. We were blown out of our seats by this conconction, because we felt we had been mindprobed in our sleep and then shown exactly what we always knew to be true.

OP poster hit it right on the head about the Chuck Jones and Tex Avery influences..

This is my favorite Pixar Short...wow! Doug Sweetland should get his own feature

reply

It reminded me so much of the old Chuck Jones and Tex Avery cartoons as well. Mainly, it reminded me of the Tex Avery cartoon "Magical Maestro", where a magician disguises himself as a symphony conductor to get back at an opera singer for not allowing him to be the opening act.

It takes an awfully good piece of animation to be compared to Chuck Jones and Tex Avery, but this one deserves it. Great slapstick. Too bad the feature following it didn't measure up.

reply

yes, I agree with 4ize.
May be because this short film was too awesome that I didn't like Wall-E all that much.

I loved this short film - in fact I preferred it to Wall-e - was a joy to watch, the rabbit was so cute too, it was pure genius.

The entirety of "Monsters Inc." is one long tribute to Chuck Jones - to the point of basing Sully's expressions in the sequence when he thinks Boo has gone into the trashmasher on one of Jones' classic shorts.

It was hilarious. I had tears from laughing so hard. At times I think I was the only one laughing in the theater, but it was just too funny. I agree. Brilliant.

reply

Amazing! I don't remember the last time I laughed so much. Just genious.

Too true! I laughed so hard I had an asthma attack but it was TOTALLY worth it! It made me think of the old roadrunner & coyote cartoons I loved when I was a kid :D

reply

This was excellent. Funniest thing I've seen in ages. I wish they'd make a full feature with these 2.
