Harrison Ford taking second billing.

Never thought I'd see the day.

Everything was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt!

Me neither! Just saw the poster and rushed here in shock. The only time since "Jedi" he wasn't first billed was his "And" credit in 'Working Girl'. I'm quite surprised.

reply

Actually he took top billing for Working Girl, despite the fact that the movie was entirely centered around Melanie Griffith. He took Top billing in every non Star Wars movie he made for the 80's, 90's and 00's. By letting Fraser take top billing on this one he really is bringing in a new era of Ford.

reply

I could have sworn he had an 'And' credit in 'Working Girl'. After watching the trailer I can see it makes sense that the dad character is first, but I'm still surprised.

reply

I wouldn't feel too bad for the legendary actor, Ford is producing this feature.

I am sure he could have been first if he demanded so, but apparently he didn't. A great gesture on his part to let the younger guy take top-billing, if that is indeed the case.

"When you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left" Clint E.

reply

I was shocked too.

I'm not too surprised by the second billing, Ford is a Hollywood legend and he's at the point in his career where he will start getting prestige supporting parts in movies carried by younger actors. Like Sean Connery in the eighties and many others.

That being said, second billing to Brendan Fraser ! You've got to be kidding. I mean, I love Brendan but he's not quite the hot young star anymore. Actually Brendan looks completely washed out to me, starring in flops after flops and aging badly. He's the go-to guy for cheap cartoon movies, movies in which CGI T-Rexes usually get second billing, not actors like Ford !

He was good in a dramatic part in "Gods & Monsters" though.

reply

I think it is graceful of Harrison to take second billing in this. About Brendan, yea he is washed out, that's why three of his movies last year made $760 million in the box office. Studios will look at their bottom line and he would not be working if he did not have box office draw. Additionally, I don't remember the last Indiana Jones being exactly an Oscar worthy masterpiece either. It is the nature of these type of movies. They are big budget popcorn movies. You watch them for what they are. Brendan has been in excellent dramas such as Gods and Monsters, Crash and Quiet American. The Air I Breathe which he did with Kevin Bacon and Andy Garcia last year was also really good. It is funny how people ignore his good movies and only see CGI heavy, big budget ones and than turn around and trash his movies.

i think ford was the first person to be signed in for the movie. fraser came in later. i think ford's role is the smaller in length and hence its was he who opted for second billing. fraser is certainly not a bigger draw then mr ford

reply

Yikes, have to say I disagree with the whole "Fraser washed out" statement. Ouch, man. Really?

I think he is the most underrated actor in Hollywood. Sure, he's not the Colin Farrel-esque bad boy, the couch-jumping Cruise, the smoldering accented Bardem or even the too-cool-for-you Clooney; he's the good guy, the guy you want to go out and have a beer with; the one who'll make you laugh when you've had a *beep* day and the one who'll stay up late listening to you whine about being dumped. But washed out? I think not.

Harrison Ford is regal, and taking second billing to Brendan Fraser is not only a gracious act, but an act from one who knows BF's potential as an actor.

Sometimes it takes a beating to make you realize you have to move on....

reply

No you're right. Fraser is underrated. "Quiet American" was really good. Also watch "The Last Time" with him and Michael Keaton.

Also to whomever mentioned Connery, point out when he was second billed. Even in things like 'The Rock' where he was a geriatric hero, he took first place. But everybody is right about Ford. It's a gracious move to realize you're role is secondary to that of the anguished parent and let it go.

reply

People "wash out" of military school. Actors are "washed up".

And I agree, Fraser isn't washed up.

It's entirely possible that the Mummy 3 was better than the Indiana Jones turd. That being said they both blew.

I know you commented on this over a month ago, but I wanted to say thanks. I'm so glad I'm not the only person out there that thinks Brendan is underated. I have always loved Brendans simple and handsome features. He takes the roles he does because he wants to do them. He doesn't seem to care about whats going to bring in the big bucks or the big draw to the theaters. I love and respect that about him. I saw something recently about Joaquin Phoenix where it was said that he chooses movies for the experience. I think Brendan likes to have fun and is up for just about anything. But unfortunately, people dont see past the fun movies like The Mummy or George of the Jungle. Its a shame because they are missing out on some great performances. I think that Still Breathing is on the top of my list when it comes to my fave Brendan movies, and I've seen nearly all of them!

I don't suffer from my addictions I enjoy ever second of them!

reply

Who cares. This topic is so shallow.

reply

both harrison ford and brendan fraser were excellent in their roles. cbs, the producer, is really cashing in on it. keri russell, who played the mother in the movie, will be seen tomorrow night on cbs in a repeat of last year's hallmark fame production of the magic of ordinary days.

Harrison Ford is a hack actor! Yes its true he is an icon and a legend and Ive seen every film he ever did and have Mos. Coast on DVD (rare!) but the guy never stretches himself beyond the action hero (except what lies..) occasionally he does a bit of bad comedy (7 days../sabrina) or a mixed genre disaster (hollywood..) but more often than not in a 3+ decade acting career he has done little to change his image (except an earing and a midlife crisis). I honestly believe he could be a great actor rather than a ok to good if he tried a little harder but nope he keeps taking safe projects, always big pay cheques, always the leading man and where has it got him...Indy garbage 4 and middle of the road nonsense like this! Look at Liam Neeson, that guy is very similar in many ways but he has consistantly pushed himself and has become a great actor with films in his twilight years like Taken which kick ass! Where is Harrisons Taken? instead we get rehashs' of films from his younger years in a sad attempt to recapture a wasted youth. I want to see more The Fugitives and Witness...since Clear and Present danger exc. Air Force One all his films have been weak and if you check the box office and IMDB ratings the review numbers back this up. Jethro the bus driver is possibly his biggest reach in the last decade which is just sad.

reply

Yeah I know, but Brendan Fraiser did get a low billing in crash and third or second billing in the air I breave and both of those came out within the past 10 years, while Ford hasn't taken 2nd billing since 1983. I'm suprised he's being that nice to Fraiser. Fraiser isn't washed up, but unlike Ford he has played supporting roles in films over the past few years.

reply

I'm just glad to see Ford doing serious, dramatic acting roles again. It gives me hope that he may one day redeem himself for that awful Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Fraser is underrated.

reply

Fraser's toupee is under rated!

reply

I think that Still Breathing is on the top of my list when it comes to my fave Brendan movies, and I've seen nearly all of them!

I agree with you! Still Breathing is a little indie film with a HUGE heart! Everytime I watch this film I sigh with satisfaction! And do you know what makes me do that? Brendan Fraser! And I've seen ALL of his films! School Ties comes in second with the original Mummy bringing up third.

reply

Since "Clear and Present Danger" (1994), Harrison Ford has starred in ten films, starting with the dreadful ill-advised remake of of "Sabrina," and ending with the almost straight to DVD "Crossing Over." Ford was at the height of his career, and chose to do films that range from unintentially funny, to just plain bad. (Think "Firewall") After ten clunkers, he should be thankful that he's still bankable, and was given second billing in an A-List film. I agree that Brendan Fraser has been given a bad rap. Yes, he's done some pot boilers, which is all that most people associate with his name. He has also given some fine performances, in "School Ties," "Gods and Monsters," "Still Breathing," "The Quiet American, etc." The fact that Fraser can do films like the above, and also do action and comedy, show his range as an actor. If you want to talk about untalented actors, who are overpaid: I was watching "Entertainment Tonight" and the ticker said that Taylor Lautner has been signed to do a non-vampire film for 7.5 million dollars. Rag on that talentless clone, not Brendan Fraser...

reply

thank you t cruise. I'm a big fan of Fraser I just wish he'd do more mainstream movies.

reply

would someone be so kind to explain to me what "second billing" and top billing or whatever mean? thanks

reply

top billing and second billing just refer to whichever actor's name is first or sometimes the largest on a movie poster or dvd cover or any promotional material.

reply

I found that odd too, but I just saw the movie last night and his role really is secondary. He doesn't have as much screen time as Fraser and the movie is focused on Fraser, not as much as Ford, so I guess thats why the second billing. Ford also produced it I noticed, so if he'd wanted top billing, he would have taken it.

reply

Although there have been actors who recieved top billing even when they're not the leads and even when the film isn't in alphabet order.

Takes 2nd billing to Brendan Frasier....A new wind is about to BLOW...

PAYBACK....This time...It's for REAL.

RIP Don, the "announcer guy from the movies"

I love to love my Lisa.

reply

Some that come to mind are Robin Williams in "Good Will Hunting," and the Governator in "Batman & Robin," despite the fact that he is neither Batman nor Robin. Jack Nicholson also got first billing in the first "Batman."

reply

I havent seen this film yet. I have been wary of Fords movies this past decade. Still it would be interesting to see the two stars of popular action adventure franchises in a drama together. I have always liked Brenden Frasier but I didnt believe him as a matinee idol type. He looks too soft. I find it hard to watch him in dramatic roles too. Then again I was a teenager when he was releasing California Man and Airheads so that may have something to do with it.

reply

They could have done it like this:

_________________________HARRISON FORD
BRENDAN FRASER_______________________

reply

He is hardly a hack actor considering that up until the mid to late 90s he was the go to man for quality adult blockbusters and swashbucklers. The last decade has been disappointing though.

reply

[deleted]

Getting older doesnt have to mean a drop in the quality of your films. He was the best thing in Indy 4 mind.

reply

I think he ok with that. I think Ford is the same as:- Winston, Caine, Connery. In other words, not so much an actor, more of a 'Face'. ..
