Ford too big a star to be a 'character' actor

I have a feeling that Mr. Ford purposely took this 'character' role and second billing to prove that he can play character parts and not alway be the leading man. also i guess he was hoping that the younger frazer would carry the film while he would be just a character.

i guess that hasnt really worked out, many reviewers give for top billing, even boxoffice mojo has bille ford above frazer. i guess his iconic roles and presence will preclude him from ever evolving into a michael caine sort of character actor. he will be more like connery who did supporting roles but always stole the show.

i am looking forward to watching the movie.

I wouldn't call his part that of a "character actor." It is really a co-lead role. His actions help drive the plot. A character actor typically has a small part with few lines and briefly interacts with the main characters.

That would be a supporting actor, not a character actor. Why are American actors/ actresses so unwilling to age gracefully and move from child-ingénue/youth -romantic lead-mother/father- aunt/uncle -grandmother.grandfather-etc.the way actors do in England? It's so foolish to try to cling to a persona you have outgrown. Of course, we have writers who write for all ages and American writers seem incapable or unwilling to do that. It's a shame.

i guess that makes sense, but he did do a great job while technically not being the main star,, even though we knew that he was.

Ford was the Executive Producer for the movie.

He said he chose to play Dr. Stonehill (a composite character, which also gave him more leeway in 'creating' Dr. Stonehill, according to Ford) because he felt it was such an interesting character to play, a good part, and something 'different'.
