I challenge anyone to watch this all the way thru

Amy Pascal was right, this movie "makes no sense"

I looked forward to this. I made it 30 minutes before turning it off.

Film made the native people of Hawaii look like crap, and Bradley Cooper's character was pathetic, I wish I had never seen this awful pile of dung movie

I watch the movie once a month or so.

It's about communication: person-to-person, ex-lover-to-ex-lover, culture-to-culture, military-to-civilian and vice-versa, civilian-to-military (that's what the scene with Kanahele, and the statements of Ng to Gilcrest where she is pleading the Hawaiian Native view, are about), man-to-woman and vice-versa, and man-to-man, as well as superiors-to-employees. Earth-to-Satellite. Saboteur-planner (Gilcrest after Ng gets through to him)-to-sabotage-engineer.

A lot of the communication fails because of barriers: ethnic, military, bureaucratic, human, personal.

Some of it gets through: Ng gets through to Gilcrest. Ng makes contact with her fellow- Hawaiians in a way that Gilcrest can't comprehend; she makes solid contact with Carson Welch; she eventually makes solid contact with Gilcrest. Finally, Gilcrest is able to communicate with Tracy, his ex-, and with his heretofore unknown daughter; Gilcrest and Tracy are able to communicate with one another and with John Woodside in ways no one else can.

The one person who cannot communicate, though he yells, criticizes, and is generally a jerk, is General Dixon. People understand his words. No one gets him.

And the main message to the audience is, be aware of who we put in charge of our safety and our destinies, because he or she may be the wrong person. He or she is not looking after us: he or she is looking out for his or her own interests.

Fantastic interpretation! I didn't fully get this movie when I saw it in the theater. But I fell in love with it upon rewatching it one night on Starz. I try to catch it whenever I can. It speaks to me on a level I can't explain. Surprisingly I relate to Gilchrist of all the characters, deeply. Wonderful movie.

I love the Hawaiian scenery and the music is great. These actors are wonderful and the story of hope and cooperation and saving the environment really touches the soul. There is a beautiful message here for people who can pay attention.

I especially like how a movie set in a place where white people are the minority... That they were the, like, only people in this movie.

Yaaaaaawwwwwnnnnnn. I can't go a day without reading something about a non white person(s) complaining about something that has to do with white people. Seriously? Now it's even on a message board on IMDB?! Wow, it's getting so old.

Except I'm not a non-white person...

I'm very much a twenty-something white male. So, how about you throw your assumptive, racist ass out of here? And yes, I said racist, because you made it seem as if only people of color can be upset about the lack of social and political diversity we see in movies. White people are sick of it, too.

And you don't want to read about it? Well, people of color don't want to live it -- get your perspectives on order, *beep*

Lol so you're one of them that gets offended FOR people i see i see!
