Which actress would make a great "Alison Ng"

who's the most popular young eurasian girl in hollywood today? somebody with star power pls.

vanessa hudgens?
a young phoebe cates?

reply

There's many choices. Many talented actresses. However Emma Stone played her perfectly

reply

Yes, but she's not even Asian! She's as white as alabaster. Bi-racial women are very rarely blue-eyed and red-headed.

Would you cast Lucy Liu as Marilyn Monroe?

reply

Emma Stone would not be a good choice to play a full or half Asian character but Allison Ng is 1/4 Asian and with that anyone could play the role of any race. Emma Stone was a good choice.

reply

Cameron...is that you?

reply

She was terrible in the movie. They clearly made the character 1/4 Hawaiin just to justify casting Stone in the role. It would have been much better had the character been pure Hawaiin--would have been more believable that she gave a crap about what was going on. Plenty of talented Asian actresses around that could have been great in this. Grace Parks comes to mind. Emma Stone is a good actress--but not in this movie. In fairness, almost all the performances in this movie are crap.

reply

She was great. Have you ever been to Hawaii? If not STFU.

reply

Allison Ng is 1/4 Asian

No, Cameron, she's 1/2.

reply

Her character is 1/2 Asian/Pacific Islander and 1/2 Caucasian.

reply

Exactly, as a result the "caucasian" would be dominant as there is only a 1/4 of the other two. But genetics doesn't exactly work that way.

reply

The character is 1/4 Chinese and 1/4 Hawaiian. Both Chinese and Hawaiians carry the gene for black hair. The gene for black hair is dominant.

When you cross a dominant black hair gene with a recessive blond hair gene, how do you get a blond kid?

The two ways I can think of:

-- Albino mutation
-- Daddy's not really your daddy.

reply

That's totally false. Dark hair is not a dominant gene when it comes to phenotypes. Explain how many aboriginal mix people have blond hair.

reply

Her character is based on a real person that Cameron Crowe knows. She is half-Asian and has red hair.

reply

Except if they had a Swedish or Scottish parent. Genes are funny things and Swedish genes are very strong. Look how "alabaster" white the child of the SVDelos couple is - a youtube channel of a very dark half Mexican guy who married a Swedish girl.

reply

Hmmm...people forget Kristin Kreuk. She's a stunner.

maybe at the height of Smallville. She may have the looks, but she may not have the starpower or "rising star" quality Cameron Crowe needs for his Aloha movie.

reply

She woulda been perfect, looks-wise! (can't speak for her acting ability)

reply

How so? She doesn't look a lick of Hawaiian.

reply

Sorry, I guess this is politically incorrect, but I thought Emma Stone was the best thing in the movie.

reply

Well if they're picking a white girl to play part Asian, summer glau.

reply

I wanted to see this film. The real world, the business side of Hollywood produces films for profit. Films people want to see. Since the beginning studios select projects, vehicles for proven stars to make good films and money. Unfortunately this was not a good film. Not because of the casting but the story was not well written. Until you start bankrolling your own money to place where your politically correct mouth is, this is the commercial system. Aloha!

maybe chloe bennet of Agents of SHIELD, but does cameron crowe even know her or have heard of AoS?

or maybe a young Tia Carrere? 

reply

if you want to cast an unknown with the looks and american accent, this could work... she could have been cameron crowe's discovery... but nooooo, crowe had to cast a white girl.

Vanessa Hudgeons-- she's 1/4 Filipino.

Rachel Bilson -is also 1/2 or 1/4 Filipino

Both cute, perky, adept at comedy, dark-haired and bi-racial features

Not only is Rachel Bilson NOT 1/2 Filipino, I find no evidence that she has any Asian ancestry of any kind. Her father is of European Jewish ancestry, and her mother is of Italian heritage. I only checked because when you said she has bi-racial features I wondered wth you were talking about. The girl has European features. It's good to know that you would have found this European descended actress so much more racially appropriate for the Ng role than the European descended Emma Stone. Google is your friend, Daisy. Try harder.

Emma Stone was a good casting choice. Since we didn't produce this movie, it doesn't matter what any of us think. It's Cameron Crowe's movie and he gets to make the decisions. This obsession with race is absurd.

reply

"It's Cameron Crowe's movie and he gets to make the decisions. "

none of us are stoping him from making crap cracker but this is a msg board so ppl will talk about it cracker. what do you think this board is for cracker?

reply

Cameron Crowe wants to sell us on a story. If we don't find the story credible, it makes it harder for him to finance movies to tell more stories.

They say, "The customer is always right" because it's easier for businesses to satisfy customers than to educate them on what is and isn't productive. I think it would have been easier for Crowe to find an actress who has almond-shaped eyes than to ask everyone to pretend that Emma Stone is 1/4 Asian.

reply

Filipino is NOT polynesian. It's still Asian with a bit of Spanish and Arabic thrown in.

reply

Moon Bloodgood. She is age appropriate for Bradley Cooper and she has played a pilot before in Eight Below and Terminator Salvation.

reply

She is the same age as him, so that wouldn't of been young and spunky. Hell they are both my age and I date girls 10+ years younger than me. Rachael is only three years younger than him and fit for the old fling. The whole thing about the new girl was she was suppose to be young.

As much as I love Moon Bloodgood she wouldn't of been good for that role.

reply

I can't think of any. And that's another problem, I guess filmmakers have to cast an actress that is a draw and unfortunately, there aren't many non-white actresses that do that.

reply

Someone older..cooper is middle-aged!

reply

No reason why he couldn't have gone for someone 13 years younger than him to start a new life. If you watch it she was REALLY into him.
