With Adam Sandler involved, why didn't this get a theatrical release?

now, I haven't seen the movie nor know if this was intentionally released direct to video but I'd imagine it could have had at least a decent opening weekend with Sandlers name AND it being PG-13.

It's nowhere near theatrical quality. I mean, regardless of content, the production values are just way too low.

I never saw ADAM Sandler's name on this movie..... the writer/producer you're thinking of in the CREDITS is SCOTT Sandler

I assumed TimBurr was simply referring to the fact that the movie was produced by Adam Sandler's production company.

When I saw the end credits and the "Scary Madison" logo I have to admit, I was a little surprised. But just because Sandler's production company is behind it doesn't mean it should have had a theatrical release. There were no bankable actors in it, so it would have been a hard sell to execs to get it to open in any kind of release, be it wide or limited.

Then again, how they managed to squeeze out turds like The Hot Chick and get them to the big screen is equally puzzling... but that's Hollywood for you I guess.

Because it stinks.

I'm sure all of us can name god-awful horror films with Z-list actors that did get thetrical releases. With better writing this could have been one. There was a story there but the people behind this were too lazy to flesh it out.

The two sets of brothers should have had some connection. Say maybe the new family ended up being related to the Hartleys and moved to town to live with them. The young brothers both get teased for being related to the town crazies which brings out the younger brother's repressed homicidal tendecies.
