WW2 was over by 1945
This film from the start got the facts wrong. If they can't get a simple fact right how is the rest of the film going to be.....so far not too good.

The war (European Theatre) was not over by 1945, it ended during 1945 (in May).
In the movie, he said that he was going to be "stationed in Germany" and that we had to "stop the Nazis". So I would imagine he was being sent over right when the Western Allied invasion of Germany was taking place, i.e. sometime in February to May, 1945.
