Wow non Gore horror what a concept

Wow only had to come to Canada to not make SAW/Hostel/Friday the 13th 69.
As much as this movie was a little idie film..I applaud the makers for stepping back from the over gore mode so many so-called Gore-porn makers have gone. I first experienced horror mvoies through Hammer films and Alfred Hitchcock and then the 1970's started it with the splatter movies which turned into non-scary slashers just trying to gross you out gore fest. Well its nice to see a movie try to step back from that and go for more suspense and mystery. I truly do enjoy horror films but really think we have stepped the boundaries with recent efforts. So look at this film as maybe the start in a new age of understanding...LESS IS MORE! Listen up hollywood scrapping out a eyeball in closeup...not scary not horror just voyeuristic gore porn. I hope that Sandler and others will lead this move that realizes The reason Pyscho and The Birds were so damn scary...Suspense..Suspense...Suspense! So I hope Scary Madison can keep the twists and true horror coming....and I did this review with out giving any spoilers. Just watch it..its a horror movie...

Yeah, I just watched it last night and I was surprised. It had a good story, and a couple nice twists at the end. The last 20 minutes are pretty gripping and movie itself moved briskly. I love gory movies, but I don't like it as a substitute for suspense. There were a couple cringe inducing scenes, but it was nice to have a build up to a suspenseful payoff for a change. Kind of a mellow mix of Hitchcock and Craven. Fun!

"Carol Anne, go into the light"!

when you capitalize "Gore" I assume you are talking about Al Gore, but that is not the case.

This movie isn't the start of anything, its worthless and not suspenseful at all. Gore might be over the top in a lot of horror movies but I'd rather have gore then rubber hands, for at least the sake of realism. I'm sorry but if your hand gets smashed by a sledgehammer it doesn't just twist the fingers at odd angles and look rubbery.

I totally agree. I really enjoyed this. As you said, reminded me of the old Hitchcock/Ray Bradbury suspense that I like so much. I think the people that don't like it are more into the gore porn. They wouldn't like it - it's not meant for that.
I also hope that Scary Madison makes more of these. Sadly, the gore porn fans outnumber us suspense fans.

I'm not a fan of pointless on-screen violence/gore just for the purpose of "grossing out" the audience. In my opinion that's just a gimmick. With that being said, however, I also believe that violence and gore can help to intensify the terror of a scene if used properly. I feel that this film could've used more of that. In the DVD commentary, the director even admits he wanted to show more blood and gore but was prevented by the producers insisting on a PG-13 rating. There's not always such a fine line between "gore porn" and "non-gore horror". There also can be truly suspenseful and gripping films which use violence to increase terror and dread - without relying solely upon it to entertain.

I'm with you guys. I think one of the reason's people are pooping all over this film is because it's not easy to have a horror film with little/no gore. It's sorta like shooting a porn movie with little or no sex.
But I watched this film last night (Halloween) and I enjoyed it.

My, you're nosey, aren't you?

It's a pretty average film, I thought it was decent but certainly not great. I felt like it was held back by the PG-13 rating. As Nick Goossen explained on the director commentary, when you do PG-13 horror, there usually is some kind of ghost/supernatural element that makes it scarier. But when you do human-on-human horror, at least some gore is kind of essential, if only for realism alone. The producers were so afraid of getting an R rating they watered it down at every turn. I think they could've gotten away with more blood, etc. and still gotten a PG-13 rating. But lack of gore was not the only thing wrong with the film in my opinion. There could've been more tension and suspense even without the gore.
