Hollow

I realised toward the end of the first series that the only character in this show is the never-seen PM. There are no arcs, no developments, no relationships, simply archetypes interacting. But that's the point, right? I mean, did you really think they talked to the same focus group every week? And there's no way Phillip and Warren were supposed to represent real people, surely. They are supposed to be archetypes. That same focus group every week is supposed to give you a basic outline of what the public is saying. We get bogged down in realism, and we forget the fundamental role of characters in film. If there were real people in this show, any kind of development, it would lose its focus, and the satire would take a back seat. The "humans" represented on screen are merely billboards to hang the ads on. It seems so obvious now, I'm disappointed it took me so long.

It's where the title comes from.

End communication.

How do you think the hike's going so far?
