We--my museum--did a Tezuka show a year ago..a year and a half.
...which is where I met MW. I thought it better than Apollo's Song, not quite as good as Phoenix, and, because the political and social bitterness, about on a level with Ode to Kirihito. But Kirihito is truly hopeful, whereas MW...really ain't. I hope the movie--won't chnage that! Most nice guys--don't even finish.
I love Tezuka when he's being sarcastic, ironical, and taking a dim view of humanity! (Needles to say, I despised Astro Boy ("The Mighty Atom"). I ate up the gekiga--the novels for adults. Negativity is second only to tragedy as a prayer for change (although one is left with the lingering doubt that human beings are EVER going to start loving each other).
