This is what I thought was going to happen ...

I recorded Deadline last night but I found out this morning I'd only got the 1st 30 minutes due to the golf coverage overrunning.

I watched the 1st 30 minutes & tried to work out what was going to happen in the end.

If Rebecca hadn't been driving the car to the house I thought it would've been a good twist if Rebecca had turned out to either be a ghost, a figment of Alice's imagination or another side to Alice's personality.

My other theory was that Rebecca & Ben were trying to drive Alice mad & that the films of Lucy & David that Alice found weren't the home movies of the previous owners (Lucy & David) but films produced by Rebecca & Ben in their attempt to drive Alice mad. Lucy & David were part of Rebecca & Ben's plot (or unwitting pawns, actors who thought they were part of a movie Rebecca & Ben were filming). I thought these films would increasingly disturb Alice as they would reveal her fractured state of mind & would go missing (Rebecca & Ben could have had access to the house & could plant & remove films while Alice was sleeping?) at the vital times that Alice required evidence of their existence.

Maybe Alice got the impression from watching these films that Lucy was going to kill David or vice versa? Maybe Alice is able to locate one of these possible killers & kill them, thus being put in the frame for murder by Rebecca & ben so they can be together?

I've read elsewhere on this board what actually happened at the end of the film but I feel that some of my theories may have worked better than those in the film. Does anybody agree - or disagree for that matter?

I also just watched this..yawn!..movie, and Neil your suggestions for alternative endings would definitely have if nothing else improved this tedious effort of "shlock horror"!...How this film got to open in a cinema...I do not know!

Hi Aria, I'm glad you liked my suggestions for alternative endings!

I noticed that Deadline had a 2 star rating in the Radio Times but I decided to record it as a) I've never seen or heard of the film before b) I like to make my own mind up about a film than go by a rating & c) Deadline was described by RT as supernatural horror which I enjoy.

I wasn't too bothered that the golf overran meaning I only got the 1st 30 minutes of Deadline. I think I would have been very disappointed if I'd watched the whole film, it seemed very slow & not a lot seemed to be happening.

I didn't think I would get any replies to my post seeing as Deadline isn't a particularly well-known film, thank you for your reply!

When David's mother appeared to discover David hanging himself, I thought David was dead and his mother was the one stalking Alice, because she blamed "Lucy" for her son's death.

I also thought that Alice and Ben, or Alice and Rebecca, were doomed to replay Lucy and David's sad story, like the Buffy episode "I Only Have Eyes For You".

I thought that Rebecca would find in the last page of the script "...and then Alice finished the job by killing the one who is reading this right now" and bam! Someone smashes the camcorder in The reader's head.
