So how do you know which version was real?

Are there clues to what happened and didn't?

Was Aidan real?

Overall the film was nice apart from the suicide of the other girl. That tips the balance and makes it vulgar.

That whole face tattoo scene and suicide were, in my opinion, just a dream. What tips it over to a dream state is the ridiculous visual of him draped in blood and hugging a still walking milly despite all that blood. Plus MIlly and that other guy face tattooing him like that seemed more like something he would dream of Milly being capable of than Milly actually caring enough to do. Milly is more of a detached kind of gal with some feelings. But in his mind, he would rather see her as someone with extreme feelings, good or bad. So for me, the face tattoo scene clearly makes that whole part a dream, not that the other parts of that dream weren't over the top.

I think you pegged it, SM1. Milly was a real ho for cheating on him in his own bed, but her character didn't have it in her to be so cruelly vindictive. That was all in Woodrow's head. On the DVD bonus, director Evan Glodell (Woodrow) talks about how this script came out of the intense pain he was feeling after a breakup.

That makes total sense. If any of you have ever been through a nasty breakup, you know how your mind can go bat-sheet crazy, thinking "what would happen if..." scenarios as you're wallowing on the floor of your lonely room with nothing but a bottle of Jack for days at a time, hating the world and imagining how to get your bloody, violent revenge on the universe. Er... not that it ever happens to me.

I haven't seen the movie since it first came out, but at the end you realise that everything after, I think, him sitting on the step with the E.T and a bed sheet or whatever was just a day dream, like how after the fact, you imagine yourself saying something really cool to some *beep* or whatever.
