first half 8/10 second half 4/10

Got pretty silly towards the end which was a shame. A bit too 'full-monty' for my liking. Like so many others it started well and then lost direction. It was more Richard Curtis than Ken Loach. A shame as I had very high expectations.

I thought the film was fairly consistent. 7/10

withnail69, my thoughts exactly. One thing was perfect though- Evets' performance.

exactly what i thought - hit the nail on the head there (excuse the pun)

I wholeheartedly agree but for sentimental reasons I gave it a 10/10.
Evet's performance is sensational.

I so loved the quite drama of the first half, with those slow steps towards the happy end. His growing confidence to talk/be with Lily, and how he worked against the lack of respect of his two stepsons. That alone would have carried the whole movie for me. - But then the whole thing just loudly stomped off as soon as the gun storyline came on.

I'm only four years behind, but I agree completely, good film overall but great drama let down by wackiness at the end

reply

I liked the movie up until the part with the gun and the gangsters.

For some reason I thought it would be about a man learning to fall in love againt with the help of Eric Cantona after her wife died in a car accident.

If I don't reply, you're probably on my ignore list for something I forgot already
