Why all the faith crap?

Why do they have to incorporate all the faith-based crap in otherwise interesting movies? Is it because Middle America likes that, and the movie makes more revenue that way? I bet that's exactly why. It sure annoys the crap out of unbelievers like me though who would be watching the movie. I'm sure I don't speak only for myself when I say that we want to see less "faith" in movies.

Yeah, and while we're at it, let's have less homosexuality in movies too! And people with too many tattoos, that turns me off. And maybe we can have fewer aliens, left handed people, people that know more than three languages (they think they're so smart), and just anyone that isn't exactly like me!

No one has any interest in seeing a movie about anyone that isn't like themselves, right? I mean why would anyone want to watch something that shows how people different than themselves would handle the situations that arise? Goes against all logic!

Seriously man, you come off sounding like someone that would bash "The Godfather" because it had too many Italians in it.

Do yourself a favor, try evaluating the merits of the movie based on the writing, acting, directing, etc... If you leave your prejudices out of the process, you might find plenty of other legitimate reasons to hate it.

Just because the movie deals with issues of faith doesn't mean it can't entertain. I personally have no particular interest in faith, or religion in general, but I did like the movie "Leap of Faith", with Steve Martin. I haven't seen this movie yet, but the story sounds intriguing, and I look forward to checking it out.

I never said any of those other things. They're not relevant. I don't bash them. I don't know what you're talking about. Also, I don't have any irrational prejudices. Movies with so much faith require way too much suspension of reality for me to enjoy them.

reply

Don't be proud of your ignorance. That is double stupidity.

reply

Ignorance? The only persons here who are ignorant are those who suck up to religion. It is the bane of the world.

reply

Yeah, and while we're at it,

Relax. He's just giving his 2 cents. I understand what you are saying, but the OP wasn't wanting to ban the movies or claiming people are idiots for watching them, only that is not a very compelling notion in his POV.

reply

Okay, I'm relaxed.

If I over-reacted, I'm sorry. I like to argue, and I guess it shows.

I still think I'm right, but that doesn't mean I have to be a jerk about it.

In his response to me, NewYorkDude said "Also, I don't have any irrational prejudices." It is nice to know that all his prejudices are completely rational.

Okay, so I'm a jerk. Sue me.

I don't understand why faith is usually considered a virtue or a good thing. Faith is really just believing in something that you have no good evidence for. It is believing for no valid reason and then also making the claim that this is a good thing.

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

Because it's a nice change from the anti-God ones that intolerant Hollywood adores. DURPTY DUR

I like your quote "Be open-minded, but not so open-minded that your brains fall out.", but from where I'm standing, faith is akin to the brain falling out.

This thread probably belongs on the philosophy board, but I think we have to differentiate (or distinguish) between the blind faith of religion (the opiate of the masses), and the faith that one has in oneself. We all possess a "god" within us; the one that (hopefully) has a moral compass and allows us to get along with our fellow man, as well as integrate ourselves into society. I have no problem with the latter; the former will eventually result in the end of the world as we know it...

I'm an Atheist, or Agnostic. Or however you might put it, a realist.

But then I have no problems with this movie, because "faith" is relevant to the character. That's all. You can't really get around that one here. Like you couldn't make a WW2 movie without fascist Nazis.

The movies I often find most interesting actually, are the ones where the protagonist goes about gunning people down and then uses his "faith" as his guide. It's rather amusing and ironic.

We need an Islamic Slasher movie. lol
