Poor title

I haven't seen this movie, but I've heard that it had very bad scorings in theatres in France, and altough this film could be interesting in some point, people might have been cooled off by the title, I don't know hot it will be translated to english, but in french, L'Ordre et la Morale, sounds very plain, boring, like "O.K. now let's talk about the dark, loud subjects"... No one wants to listen some kind of dissertation, right? Be careful, I'm not saying that the movie is boring, I'm only saying that the title could lead the people to think that it will be a very serious, almost preachy thing...

english title will be "rebellion"

The french title translates as Order and Morality which is a better title than Rebellion, which in the film means the way the French government dealt with the situation and the morality of what they did. The film is anything but a dissertation, neither is it boring or preachy. One of the reasons it did badly in France was because it was openly critical of the French Government's handling of the situation based solely on the fact that the incident occurred during the lead up to the elections and Mitterand wanted to end it as quickly as possible, so negotiations were abandoned and replaced by use of force by the French army.

I agree, the french title is def better than the american one!

I agree with the OP. The french title is definitely pompous. The english title is not much better as it is too generic.
