Absolutely HIlarious

I don't know if anyone else found this, but I watched this with a tiny group of friends, and loved it...for all of the wrong reasons.

The acting was just hilarious, and the dialogue was equally as poor. There's one line that Barbarossa delivers, which at the end of it, he says "Milan....Milan.....Milan" It's just stupid.

Also, the constant "FREEDOM" thing made me laugh harder and harder as it went on. The first big battle scene made me laugh too...there were a whole bunch of things in there which I found hilarious, but the thing that I loved the most was F. Murray Abraham's character (if I remember correctly...if it wasn't him, it was definitely someone else) crying it "ahhhh", as the camera zoomed in on his face like some corny 70's exploitation flick.

The other thing I loved was the freeze frame scene change used somewhere reasonably early-on in the film. Just hilarious.

If you want a laugh, I'd recommend watching this, if you're hoping for a serious, interesting period piece, you'll be somewhat disappointed.

Thanks for reading :)

Yeah, totally!!! If you want a decent movie that depicts the Barbarossa storyline, the film is a major disappointment, and just terrible. For sure!!!

I had exactly the same reaction Coco-Loco. It functioned as one of the funniest, laugh-out-loud comedies I've seen in a long time, I actually cried with laughter at some points. I watched it with the missus and we kept erupting in convulsions at the terrible acting, shocking dialogue and bizarre randomness of events. It kept my interest up to the end, I couldn't wait to see what happened next. So, in effect, it was compelling piece of work- just not in the way the filmmakers intended.

If it had been one of those deliberately 'so bad it's good' sort of flicks it wouldn't have worked. It was the utter seriousness and the lack of awareness of it's own absurdity that did it for me.

What was that line of Barbarossa's "we'll make them bleed like sheep that are bleeding only to please the shepherd"? Something like that. What the Hell is that supposed to mean?

What about the chunky, bug-eyed guy with long, lank hair, one of Barbarossa's allies in the first half of the film? In one scene he was stood in the background as the boss is trying to have a serious discussion. It looks like he's wearing a bear's head over his own and pulling the strangest grimace I've ever seen. Every time the camera cuts back to Hauer, he's there over his shoulder gritting his teeth and bulging his eyes out for no reason whatsoever. I howled.

YES!!!! I remember that scene where he's just pulling weird angry looking faces in the background! Reading you post made me laugh out loud and I almost want to see it again now hahaha. Great stuff.

I liked your description of when the Company of Death are shouting "FREEDOM!" then the camera goes in for a close up and they start screaming "AAARRRGH!". That stood out to me too. It seems like every time there's a lull in the action, a bunch of sweaty, hairy blokes have to stand around bellowing "Freedom!".

It deserves to become a cult classic. Few films achieve such levels unintentional comedy. The last time a movie had such an effect effect on me was when I first saw http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067630/reference

Yesss, thank you! Hahaha

Just looked at that movie...I think I might check it out at some point. Looks terrible which has a lot of appeal to me, so thanks a lot for that! Cheers! :)
