Historical problems

Zriter59 Call me anal-retentive, but the makers of historic films should pay attention to details.

The 1962 "Taras Bulba" featured flintlock or snaphaunce firearms in the 1500s, when everyone with a gun had a matchlock or (for the rich) wheelock. Can't quite tell from the 2009 clips, but it seems that Taras uses NEITHER to execute his eldest son.

That's the least of this movie's problems.

I believe the time period of the '62 film is the cossack uprising of the mid 1600s- fine for the use of a flintlock, as they appear ca. 1610 for the aristos, and maybe 15-20 years later as a common feature.
