Read the Gogol novella

I'm reading the Gogol story right now, and the writing is luminous. I can almost see the steppes and hear the people speak. I'm not quite done with it, so I'm not going to jump ahead in the movie. I have to say that so far, the movie is doing a really conscientious effort to follow Gogol's plot. I see each scene and I think the casting is marvellously right on, at least in my inagination so far. I think the director shows great reverence for Gogol's vision. Do not neglect to read the story though because Gogol is fabulous writer!
