Casting for american version

Loved this film and can't wait to see our hyped up action thriller version playing like Die Hard in a prison. Cast with Denzel Washington as Leader con and Jamie Fox as newbiw guard. I see oscar calibre roles here - somebody get Holllywood in on this!!!!

reply

Please don't.

Do they have to be black in the american version?

I'd say Ben Foster as new guard and Ray Winstone as the riot leader.

reply

Are you familiar with the usa penal system? It's dominated by african americans and if the flick were accurate to being based on reality the casting should be so. Sick of Bruce Willis/Stallone/Ahnold etc etc being cast as the only reliables...this story requires a bit more acting.

reply

These wouldn't be good casting choices but while watching, I couldn't help but think of the resemblence between Tosar and Colin Farrell if Farrell had the shaved head, goatee look. Likewise Jon Polito for Utrella although it's hard to imagine Polito putting riot gear and beating on people.

I read CBS Films has the rights to an American version. Paul Haggis will produce and possibly direct. Ryan Condal was said to have been hired to rewrite the script. He was working on Hercules for MGM based on a graphic novel.

I see Ashton Kuchner as Malamadre and maybe Jennifer Lopez as the warden. Got to have some political correctness in an American movie.

Maybe Nicholas Cage from Con Air. Seriously maybe John Malkovitch could be in it.

Casting a actor/actress of color isn't "political correctness"----people of color are Americans too, we not getting cast just to prove some "agenda", it's because we ARE Americans and we deserve to be seen onscreen like anybody else. White people are in 99% of most films coming out of Hollywood, but yet you still want to b**** and moan about any non-white actor getting cast, as if that's taking something away from a white actor. Y'all dominate most of the films, so what the hell are y'all complaining about? Geesh.

reply

latex81:
Why the hell do you even care if they are? Why is that even a problem for you? Especially since 99% of American films are about white people. And black people ARE Americans too, something white people seem to think only they have a claim on. Another whiny racist as usual.

reply

Wow that would suck, so I'm sure it will get made exactly like you describe.

reply

Lol totally agree

I can certainly wait "to see our hyped up action thriller version playing like Die Hard in a prison" ... hopefully forever. This isn't Hollywood material, they would americanize, simplify and stupify the movie (and give it a happy ending, too). No, thanks.

reply

Please, please, please no. While watching this superb film I found myself thinking of the many ways the Americans would ruin the remake. Yes, Badass would be an African American or Latin - Danny Trejo would be perfect. The guard would be a light skinned mixed race actor and the prisoners would be predominantly Latinos incarcerated for drug dealing and gang related violence, thus feeding Donald Trump's stereotype of Mexicans and Latin Americans all being drug dealers, rapists and other assorted crooks. Did I mention that the American version would also have a happy ending?

How the hell would the case not being mostly white "ruin" a remake of this film? When it was a Latin American film to begin with? Geesh! Why the hell does every movie have to be a white cast only? Ever ask yourself that? And nobody gives a damn what trumpf's racist a** thinks anyway.
